Pope Francis is supposed to have referenced the Gospel of Mark in which non-Christians who do good are said to be acceptable. Stemming from this he is supposed to have said that Atheists who do good are acceptable. I certainly hope he did. If he did, however, I suspect it was only in order to convert them. Per the article:

Of course his concept of what is good is bound to be a bit twisted.  Opposing the political activities of the Catholic church and trying to bring it to justice for its criminal activities are probably bad things, in his eyes.
