Louisiana lawmakers propose prayer to stop oil disaster
(CNN) -- While cleanup crews and technical teams continue efforts to stop crude gushing into the Gulf of Mexico, Louisiana lawmakers are proposing a different approach: prayer.
State senators designated Sunday as a day for citizens to ask for God's help dealing with the oil disaster.
"Thus far efforts made by mortals to try to solve the crisis have been to no avail," state Sen. Robert Adley said in a statement released after last week's unanimous vote for the day of prayer. "It is clearly time for a miracle for us."
The resolution names Sunday as a statewide day of prayer in Louisiana and calls on people of all religions throughout the Gulf Coast "to pray for an end to this environmental emergency, sparing us all from the destruction of both culture and livelihood."

I suppose it was inevitable. SOMEONE figured us poor helpless humans were just not up to a challenge of this magnitude and just HAD to call in an air strike by the ol' sky-daddy. And of course, when someone's innovative efforts actually manage to either reduce the flow or stop it altogether, they'll sing in three-part harmony about how their deity saved the day.
[Pardon me, I feel a severe bout of reverse peristalsis coming on....]

A number of churches in Louisiana got together for the same idiotic purpose a week or two ago and created an oil-spill prayer website where they urged folks to get together and pray for mitigation of the disaster. Unfortunately I can't remember the name or URL.

Please let them do so, in fact we should encourage them to do so. Such a visible representation of the futility of their position can only bolster the rational stance that science, unfortunately got us into this and only science has the solution. Yes i think we should encourage them. Words i never thought i would utter.

But see, the way it works is that they pray, science fixes the mess, they claim prayer did it.
Same as when a surgery is successful. "It's a miracle! God saved my husband!" -

The thing that bothers me the most is not that it is ridiculous. It is that it is in blatant disregard of separation of church and state. We need to get organized at least enough to come up with the money to sue lawmakers on the personal level for some kind of malicious intent to deprive us of Constitutional rights. We could probably make a profit out of it. We are taken so lightly that lawmakers blatantly treat the Constitution of the United States as non-applicable when it comes to us and I don't feel like turning the other cheek about it.
