Pilgrims have been coming to the shrine at Knock in Ireland's County Mayo since 1879 when fifteen people allegedly saw a vision of the Virgin Mary, St Joseph and St John the Evangelist. Even the Pope has been there; making the trip for the shrine's 100th anniversary in 1979.
And today, Saturday Dec. 5, thousands more are expected.
They are coming in response to a prediction of a visitation by the Blessed Virgin by Dublin "spiritual healer" Joe Coleman and they will be staring at the sun in hopes of seeing the apparition for themselves.
A previous gathering there on October 31, led to at least 5 pilgrims being treated for solar retinopathy (eye damage caused by staring at the Sun).
I was thinking that suicide may be an argument for free will
Hello, Mike.
IMHO, suicide is one of the best argument AGAINST free will. We do not just "will" ourselves to end our lives for no reason or cause at all. There are underlying conditions…
As if, those of us who are childless by choice need to "grow up!"???
My feeling about this: people have a choice in how much responsibility they want to take on. It's not immature to avoid creating a responsibility that you don't want. Having a kid…
I've been a little reluctant that I have extended on the other side of the planet. I figure an employer will think "She's gonna want long vacations all the time".
A place for atheists to discuss morality issues. What shapes your morality? What new perspectives have you found since abandoning faith (if you ever had any)? Is there any merit to religious moral authority?
WOW!
I don't know much else about Jainism. I remember in my religious education class learning that Jainists want to kill as few living things as possible.
