SEATTLE (Reuters) – A Seattle cartoonist who stirred up a religious storm with a tongue-in-cheek encouragement to draw images of the Muslim prophet Mohammed has gone into hiding after a threat to her safety.

According to Seattle Weekly, which originally published an illustration by cartoonist Molly Norris entitled "Everybody Draw Mohammed Day," Norris was told by the Federal Bureau of Investigation to "go ghost."

"On the insistence of top security specialists at the FBI," Norris is "moving, changing her name and essentially wiping away her identity," a Seattle Weekly report said on Thursday.

The Seattle office of the FBI did not immediately return a call seeking comment.

Great!@#@&^% We have our very own Salman Rushdie ....
And yet, will the Christian minister in Florida have to go into hiding?
Well now, that would be entertaining, wouldn't it? Since I don't like either the terrorist assassins or the crazed, gun-totin' pastor, I wouldn't know which side to root for when they met.
I dunno, that's a tough one. While I think we could stand to be rid of one wacko, there's always the risk of a member of his congregation growing a pair and taking over, and then his replacement also has a martyr to work with.
Really though...no imams have issued fatwas against him?
Here's why she has to go into hiding with death threats against her.

Yeah, I published it, too. Come and get me, Mother F&$#er!
I even drew one of my own. And for the record, this is a protest I can get behind.

Seriously, that's the cartoon? That's it?

I never saw it until now. I figured it had to be something specifically designed for shock value, like Muhamad giving Jesus or George W a blow job.

Fucking goddamn fucking fuck. What is this world coming to?!?
No, that's the one he drew. There were at least tens of thousands of people who participated. Some were respectful and quite artistic. Some were stick figures, like his. Some were quite profane.
It's the one Pat posted that I replied to.

Sorry - NING doesn't always make it crystal clear which post one is responding to with that near-invisible and too-short gray dotted line!
Heh, ah.
The one that Pat posted is the cartoon that started it all.
