A former bus driver has sued the Capital Area Rural Transportation System, charging that the nine-county transit service discriminated against him based on his religion when he was fired for refusing to drive a woman to a Planned Parenthood clinic in January.

Edwin Graning, who was hired as a driver on April 1, 2009, was “concerned that he might be transporting a client to undergo an abortion” when he was assigned to transport two women to Planned Parenthood, according to his lawsuit, filed this week in U.S. District Court in Austin.

Graning is seeking re-instatement, back pay and undisclosed damages for pain, suffering and emotion distress. He is represented by lawyers from the American Center for Law & Justice, founded by evangelical Christian leader Pat Robertson.

Of course, he would have been fine if he was taking them to Unplanned Parenthood where they would then be left up to their own devices. Sheesh!
Biased Bus Driver seeks help for lawsuit from Biased lawyers? Typical for a Christian to use Lawyers by people like Pat Robertson.

Although his firing was justified. He refused to service a customer. If he was fired for saying he was against abortion that might be different.
If you find your job conflicts with your morals, then it is up to you to quit.
IMHO.

Or, if your job conflicts with your morals, get new ones.
I'm waiting for a nurse to convert to Christian Science and then sue, claiming that his or her religious views prevent her from treating people with anything other than prayer.
Anyone know of a religion where it is not allowed to work?

Any number of Asian, particularly Indian, religions where you can become Ascetic/Renounciate; basically embracing a life of suffering and doing-without, which includes becoming a beggar on the street.
Blue Frog, that is what came to my mind when the laws came out about medical workers refusing to give birth control. If they can do that b/c of their religion, it's not so different to say a nurse or doctor can refuse medicine and instead pray for the patient.
But if you quit because of your morals you can't tell those ladies about the horrors that they are doing and you can't help to protect the "babies".
Of course we nor does he have any way to know if they were going for an abortion or just a routine gyn visit. Perhaps they were going to get prenatal vitamins. F*cking bigots don't seem to care what actually happens at Planned Parenthood.
In other words, in order to "keep women from killing their babies", you might actually make a woman kill her baby by blocking access to medical care. Are all pro-lifers really so stupid?
Are all pro-lifers really that stupid?

I'd like to think not...but evidence to the contrary is difficult to find.
