America Passes Health Reform. Naturally, God Punishes Iceland.

Yesterday, hate radio host Rush Limbaugh talked about the volcanic eruption that’s affecting air travel over much of Europe, saying it was “God speaking” in response to the passage of health care:

"You know, a couple of days after the health care bill had been signed into law Obama ran around all over the country saying, “Hey, you know, I’m looking around. The earth hadn’t opened up. There’s no Armageddon out there. The birds are still chirping.” I think the earth has opened up. God may have replied."

I have to admit, it's got to be fun to be a Christian. You can link any world disaster to anything you hate, no matter how completely unrelated the two. Somewhere in the universe, a star is going supernova. Which of Obama's evil policies were the direct cause of that I wonder?

I remember family discussion - no - fights about how Hoover was right and FDR caused the collapse of the economy and made things worse by putting people to work at make-work jobs.

We hear the same kinds of things now, privatize everything, even water, energy, Social Security, and fail to acknowledge the role of destroying labor unions, taking away banking regulations, expecting people who work for lower wages in order to increase profits. The working class wants to earn enough to buy a home, health insurance, educate the next generations, and pay for their own retirement. Small business needs access to loans in order to grow its enterprise. These are not greedy folk wanting more than their share.

If our country is to be strong, it must provide a way for people to invest in small businesses with safe and solid money available for loans to buy the things they need and to maintain our standard of living. It is not too much for a wage worker to seek to better his/her lot in life, and for the owners of capital to participate in that effort. There is no benefit to cause the wealthy and poor to have wider income gaps. No one benefits by a growing lower class and shrinking middle working class. I am not claiming anything for workers for nothing; they give their time, energy, loyalty, and dedication to a company and the company pays for those attributes by participating with the workers to better the quality of life for our citizens.

The bankers and financial institutions do not demonstrate their patriotism by their growing wealth at the expense of the working class. It is the workers who reveal patriotism.

Soooo...correlation does not reveal cause, but is it not odd that loss of ice, increase of volcanic activity, failing banks, growing poverty class, increasing wealth of a small number of people, all within our lifespan occurs at the same time? Is it possible that value systems of homo sapiens create belief systems that produce such change?

No, there is no relationship! It has to be god punishing humans for their sins!

Unless it's God punishing Europe because Ricky Martin came out as gay.

So, if a British singer whom no one suspected was gay, like Boy George, came out as gay, California can expect The Big One.
