Al Qaeda Accused of Using Male Rape to Recruit Suicide Bombers

Published Jul 1, 2009 by ■ Carol Forsloff

According to Algerian militant Abu Bacir El Assimi, Islamic terrorists rape young men as a means of recruitment for suicide bombings. Rape creates a social stigma and fear, according to reports, that leave Muslims prepared to die.
The Sun quotes Algerian militant Abu Baçir El Assimi as saying,
"The sexual act on young recruits aged between 16 to 19 was a means to urge them to commit suicide operations."

Both rape and homosexual acts under Sharia law are punishable by death.

News sources say an autopsy revealed a suspected terrorist bomber killed during an attempted terrorist attack on a security installation in Algeria may have been raped. The report presents the autopsy as finding: "a large tear in the anus of the terrorist, which confirms the sexual abuse. In addition, semen analysis is underway to determine the perpetrator.” The victim of the alleged abuse was 22 years old who was said to have joined a terrorist group in March 2008.

As if Al Qaeda needed any more evidence against it.
Allahu Akbar! sheesh!
Careful, Al Quaeda will give American Fundie Xians new recruitment ideas.
The Catholics have been doing this for years.
Abstinence makes the church grow fondlers.
ZING!
Thanks for the perspective, Josh.

So ? We post news items as is. We leave the commentary to the comments section.

I would not dismiss this either. It has a female perspective, where suicide bombing is offered as an alternative to an honour killing.
I have to agree that there is little support for the validity of this story, however, the idea hits home when viewed with psycho-warfare goggles. At first glance I am more apt to envision the US using this as a torture technique than a form of indoctrination by a religious group, then I recall stories and friends that have dealt with religious folks over the years. I spent years analyzing pedophiles and their effects in the small towns I grew up in and couldn't help but correlate the catlics (who were usually the pedos) and the others (victims) as a potential invasion to destroy self respect and family/community cohesion (We had a strong IRA presence in our part of little town Canada that made constant attempts to intimidate the little guy.) i suspect that this has been a technique for oppressive control for generations by the possibly straight religious folks...
Are you justifying revenge ?

Any of the respected member including the senior member posting the discussion failed to notice the murder of 85 people(45+15+40) in three US attacks in a single day mentioned in same link.

Yes. Because it has become like McDonald's advertising on teevee - it's so common and ordinary, we don't notice it.
I would expect that it wasn't noted here because the story has nothing to do with religion. It doesn't mean that it isn't news worthy and that people didn't notice it, but there are thousands of news outlets for regular news, this one is a bit more specialized.

I read tons of news of every variety and sometimes I read a story that is really inspiring or outrageous or troubling and I want to post it here to share it--but I usually don't. This just isn't the place for it. Once we cross that line and begin posting non-atheist news, there really isn't a good place to draw the line anymore.
My response wasn't meant to cause offense. I apologise. It was just an observation that suicide bombings have really become as mundane to us as junk food commercials. We are all too numb to feel anything on a personal level any more because we are overwhelmed with it every day. A day without a suicide bombing somewhere would be abnormal.
