ADOPT AN ATHEIST CAMPAIGN

Catholic League president Bill Donohue explains why the Catholic League is starting a new initiative aimed at atheists:

Approximately 80 percent of Americans are Christian, and 96 percent celebrate Christmas. Of the 20 percent who are not Christian, non-believers make up the largest segment, though the number of self-identified atheists is tiny. David Silverman, president of American Atheists, knows this to be true, which is why he is frantically trying to inflate his base. “We want people to realize that there may be atheists in their family,” he told the New York Times, “even if those atheists don’t even know they are atheists.”

Heh, that's awesome. The level of delusion never ceases to amuse me. Theists truly don't understand the most basic things about us. They think we just haven't heard the 'good news'. Atheists have generally thought about religion far more than most Christians have and know far more about the Bible.

I can just imagine all of these poor, deluded little pawns going out and confronting freaking American Atheist members ... the more active, knowledgeable atheists out there ... thinking that they have something to teach these atheists about Christianity that the atheists don't already know.

That would be great reality TV! I would love to see it... It has always shocked me how much the theists DON'T know about us. But what shocks me the most is the flat out lies, some of the lies are downright funny!

I keep trying to come up with an "atheist free to a loving home ..." ad, for myself, but I'm having difficulties coming up with something that isn't completely inappropriate.

It's mportant to note that the Washington Times is owned by the ultraconservative Sun Myung Moon, founder of the Unification Church.

From a right-wing spin standpoint, it's useful for them to use this an anecdotal case of a man who a. doesn't appear truly disabled, and b. is involved in an odd and (to many) rather repugnant lifestyle. His threat of suicide is pretty stupid, but just serves as icing on the propaganda cake.
