Atheist News Podcast Project

Hey guys.

I probably shouldn't put this off anymore, so I'm just going to jump on it and improvise. I'm pretty sure the show is over. It was a ton of fun doing it, but with work and my son and my wife in school I simply don't have time to do it anymore.

Other folks have offered to take over but I don't really feel comfortable with that. Quit while you're ahead, sez I.

Anyhow, I payed for another year of hosting, so the archive of podcasts will be available for at least that long.

I really enjoyed podcasting, so I might do something again in the future. I'll keep you posted.

Thanks guys and gals! It was AMAZING.

Love,

--Joe

I found our family, including my atheist grandfather, dead at least 60 years, is now sanctified by the Mormon church. Oh Dear! Granddad would be turning in his grave, if he had a spirit, which he doesn't.

Bob Barker's been in the news more than usual lately it seems, between funding Sea Sherpherd Conservation Society's "MV/ Bob Barker" and their new helicopter, and saving elephants from living in Canadian zoos, I'm finding myself liking the old guy more and more... then I saw on his MySpace page that he's long been an agnostic... funny how I'd never noticed him on atheist celeb pages...

I cant think of a worse bang for your buck than a teaching degree. Average starting salary is probably 50-70% that of other fields with a masters and a salary cap to boot.

My mom is a teacher and after seeing how teachers are treated and paid, i wouldnt consider it. I got a 4 year engineering degree 8 years ago and have already greatly surpassed my moms salary who has maxed out her pay for her district.
TNT666 Comment by TNT666 yesterday

There is a philosophical point to be made there however. It IS government policy to pay bureaucrats less value than they would COMPARED to similar employment in the private sector in order to ensure that bureaucracy isn't filled by salary chasers. We DO want our government workers, serving the people, to be doing so because that is their passion.

However, teachers are not bureaucrats, and teachers in some areas (but not all) are underpaid. But more important than underpaid... teachers in a great many areas are undervalued... in the esteem sense. Children are often considered "right" and teacher "wrong", which is ridiculous from young children, and from uneducated parents.

There is the additional problem that it is getting harder and harder (money and time) to get a teaching degree and IMHO this is weeding out the wrong teachers. My favourite and most interesting, empowering, inspiring, teachers I've had through my many years of schooling were the ones that are today weeded OUT of the long hard road to becoming a teacher, and the boring, straight laced, uptight people are the ones best equipped to survive the educational training, those least gifted to actually encourage youth to learn. We have reached a sad state in the world of education  :(

Jesus Chrysler, teachers (women) shouldn't be paid a'tall.
