How's it going guys. Following a spark of inspiration, I've recently become an aspiring electronic music programmer. I've got my hands on a copy of Pro Tools 8, and Native Instrument's Komplete 7 softsynth bundle. I've been having quite a bit of fun with the synthesizers and such, but I've run into a problem that I'm hoping to find some help with.
Using the Battery 3 plug-in, I've been trying to get the snare to hit that "psht" sound common in the genre of electronic music that I enjoy and intend to take queues from, but I just can't seem to figure it out. I've tried layering different samples (there're quite a few that come with the Battery 3 library), played around with the tune, envelope, compressor, EQ settings, etc. etc. No matter what, either the sound is "too acoustic" or just ends up being too filtered and clipped.
I'm a noob at this and I'm aware that I really just don't know what I'm doing. Please, if you have any suggestions, pointers or advice, I would appreciate anything that might send me in the right direction.
Here are youtube links for a few examples of the sound I'm talking about.
