Mike, you're forgetting how self-centered America is. 9/11 was a wake-up call, but just like everyone I knew was saying would happen, we're falling back asleep. We'd have been completely oblivious again, by now, if the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan weren't still going on.

Very simple and powerful message, Jason - wish I'd said that. I like to modify it to 'People with guns/gods kill more people', 'cos in fact people without guns/gods kill people too.
Re. surrogate-mothers discussion, I'm not sure of the exact medical definition either, but would imagine it refers to any mother who allows her body to be used for the gestation, no matter how the baby got there. That would mean Mary qualifies. I wonder if she contributed her own egg or whether God supplied one of his own - pretty well relinquishing his claim to be male in the process, androgynous at best.
Then again, as there seems to be no sperm involved to fertilise it, just a shaft of light ... oh fuck it, I'm no gynecologist.
It's kinda tantalizing to imagine all those thousands of little also-ran baby Jesuses that didn't win the race of life, their doomed little holy tails flagellating desperately in the mire of the Madonna's cervix, to be ignominiously douched out at the break of day. As every sperm is sacred, no doubt they're flagellating desperately around the viscous mire of heaven right now. Ah, the visions of sweet blasphemy.

Aren't surrogate mothers specifically carrying a baby that wasn't formed from her egg? Or is it also considered a surrogacy if it's her own baby, and they just used the father's sperm ... and she's having it for the couple who wants a baby? Essentially for a mother who's sterile, I guess?
