The singer isn't afraid of menstruation inasmuch as he is making fun of it. After all, it's very Irish to find humour in the face of discomfort... probably one of the most brilliant survivor mechanisms the Irish have developed culturally. As a great Irish director once said: "Ireland has suffered three curses: drink, the church, and England!"
