Atheist Humor

This is the place to post that hilarious irreligious YouTube video, an irreverent, anti-religious cartoon, or other humorous bit of media. Posts that do not reflect an atheist/irreligious theme will be deleted. (Don't make me go Old Testament.)

Lewis Black: The Flintstones is not a documentary.

A slightly longer version of the clip that used to be here.

Yeah, I remember seeing that video many years ago.  Of course, it's selective editing, but the fact that they could find anyone to fit in to their selection is pretty sad.

On another but related note, in our ER we have a saying that we unfailingly find ourselves using to describe some of our patients ; "You can't cure stupid."

We had a Swedish exchange high school student awhile back. She would come home with unbelievable stories about questions her classmates would ask eg: "Who is the president of Europe?" and "what language do you speak in Sweden?" The saddest part of all this is that in our little god-lovin'-town, these kids could quote the bible verbatim.

I was wondering myself how many people they interviewed to get that many truly stupid people. Honestly I am an old man but there is a lot about intelligence I don't understand. I for one have little formal education. I was from a poor country farmers and spent most of my time as a kid helping out on the farm. I have often met people who went to college and seemed dumb as a rock. On several occasions I have had these college kids work for me and I swear, although book smart they couldn't poor water out of a boot with directions written on the bottom. I truly believe it takes more than the education but also the ability to problem solve. I have never traveled so I don't know if this is the dumbest country in the world but I do realize our school system is lacking something.

Let's not pick on Americans, as John says. The problem I have is that intellectual people and particularly those like us who have no problem with reality and in a small minority - and it's shrinking!

I'm going to be all pedantic now - IQ is a (fairly poor) measure of intelligence; intellect is an unquantifiable amount of what you know. You can be intelligent and intellectual or any mix of that. Intellectual people are likely to be intelligent too, but that doesn't necessarily follow. Drive has a lot to do with it.

Robert is sadly quite correct. Americans (per capita) are the most ignorant people in the developed world when in comes to biology and evolution in particular. Many are extraordinary introspective and fail to understand there is a whole world out there that was doing just fine for millenia before westerners invaded only a few centuries back!

Colbert is right, Silverman looks like Satan! That was the first thing I thought of when his photo popped up. Colbert and Tyson in one video, what a treat!
