I'd say that someone has way too much time on his hands, but I wouldn't really call it a waste of time and money.  I'd file it under entertainment expenses, for both the fun during the trial, and the fun he gets to have showing off the ID, after the fact.

You are right, Joseph! I just can't imagine what all of the people involved in the trial were thinking about that unusual case. BTW, I had posted on "Hang With Friends" the link to read the news on "msnbc - Newsvine"

Yeah, I pulled it up on NPR's website this morning, too.  They had a bit better coverage of it, explaining it more from his perspective.
