Oh my word, I really didnt expect so many replies - I will have to look in more often. I was expecting email to notify me of replies haha - thank you all!
Well, I cant reply individually to everyone but will try to cover as many points as possible....... Im a member of a couple of dating sites which I dont actually use for dating but do enjoy the banter of the forums - until that is the Christians come along trying to influence every thread with their 'message' and playing their thinly veiled parts in the 'great commission'. Im positive this must happen on lots of other sites too, this insidious infiltration with seemingly innocent comments such as 'I'll pray for you' or 'miracles do happen' etc - they need to be questioned on their assumptions - for a start, the training sites which I mentioned are being used suggest they go into all kinds of different interest groups, start out innocently and gradually introduce god stuff - just google 'internet evangelism day' and you may start to get the picture of what Im saying......... better still, have a look at this link http://ied.gospelcom.net/dayframeforlinks.php?id=http://guide.gospelcom.net/resources/creative.php&referer=&des=Creative%20strategy

I would love to see us helping each other to counteract these activities - is there a way here to start a list of sites where this activity is going on?

I will be limited to the free sites as of course will many others but am prepared to join as many sites as neccesary to combat this creeping evil...... I feel we need to mobilise this defense as a matter of urgency and its something we can do from however small a community we live in - the concensus spread by the media is that Atheists are the evil scum of the earth, we need to redress this and my usual way is to be very nice to them (except for one argument I did get into last week when I quickly turned the comp off cos it was ugly) but challenging too. Problem is, im getting overpowered on one of these sites and am asking for help but am also going further in suggesting that we all help each other and adopt the tactics which are being used against our beliefs..........

Im up for a bit of Atheist defending! My idea is taken from the fundies who actively recruit people to infiltrate various sites to evangelize - their buddies seem to come out of the woodwork too if somebody is proving particularly stubborn (i.e. me haha) They actually have training progs to prepare them to go onto unsuspecting sites and find ways to introduce own agenda........ I say lets play them at their own game!
Im not just being paranoid either, I have on my comp somewhere (could find it if asked) examples of just such recruitment tactics........

Top idea, will keep my eyes and ears open for any atheist bigotry here in Australia and let you all know about it.

Whenever you run across an example of anti-atheist bigotry, post it in the group's discussion forum. This will allow all of us to learn about it and write letters, leave comments, make calls, etc. The key is that we start teaching people that anti-atheist bigotry is unacceptable and will not be ignored.

I live in a very secular part of the U.S. -- in the mountains near a ski resort. Life is pretty darn good for me, but I know I chose a special place to have a family.
However I can help my fellow freethinkers, I will!

Howdy all...

And now, what shall we do?

I have no idea what I could do to help. I live in a tiny village on the Alberta prairie, more than 100km from the nearest city (and it ain't a big one), nor do I have much time to write (what with all the other shit I do), but I want to help.
Any suggestions?

I'm here too! Considering the area I live in, to be an atheist is worse than a child molester I think...
