The shelter has probably already taken care of it. I brought my cats to the vet myself, and they never held it against me, even if they hated the treatment.

Steph, you said you think a female cat is no more trouble than a male.  I imagine you're right.  I was surprised when the girl at the center said that, but now I'm wondering if there are basic differences once a cat is spayed or neutered.  I hate saying those words.  It sounds like such an unpleasant procedure!

Another question:  I wonder if it might be a good idea to have someone else take my cat to the vet to get spayed of neutered, so the cat doesn't associate that with me.

Steph, Patricia, Kosak, Chris, thanks for your replies.

A further question:  All cats adopted from the shelter here has to be spayed or neutered.  I imagine that causes them pain for a while.  What do I need to do to help them through that?

Hi Idaho Spud! A cat is wonderful for you, he/she will lower your bloodpressure and calm you down when you need it. My husband suffers from anxiety disorder: with some medicine and the work our cats did over the years he has an almost normal life. Many cats catch spiders - my house is almost insect- and spiderfree. But if you expect to continue your life without thinking how the cat feels, you'll get a disappointment. A cat will behave like he's your equal. Every cat has got her/his own hangup and it could be anything: to lie on the bed or to throw knickknacks from the window sill or to keep every door in the house open or to steal vegetables.. you'll laugh and accept it in the end and worry less than ever. I've seen lots of different behaviour in the more than ten cats that shared with us, but it's always kind and friendly. Don't worry about germs, a good friendship strengthens your resistance against germs. A cat is no dirtier than a potato.

Technically, cats are dirtier in comparison to dogs, at least in terms of bacteria and germs. We should really say they groom themselves, not clean themselves. But even so, they are still relatively clean animals.

I do suggest getting a cat, especially if you can get them to be a lap cat. Cats seem to have a calming effect when you pet them. They greatly enjoy it too.

That is so true Patricia!

Idaho Spud - sorry about the typo.

I meant - when you get your cat come here and I can help you out with your new pet.

We are here for you!

A cat will have you trained in no time, AND you'll like it!!!! Hahahaha!!!!

Comment by Steph S. on August 22, 2012 at 6:26pm

Idaho Spud I would suggest to you to get a cat.

I am bias to cats and I love them.

I think they are easier to care for than dogs. Cats don't need to be walked and they are just fine doing their own thing.

I don't think females are harder to deal with than males - I think that person was wrong and sexist in saying that.

Anyways, cats will give you much love and are worth the trouble of having to throw away poop.

Well, the cat will get used to not going into the rooms that you don't want it to go in.

Cats are very clean and they wash themselves with their paws.

Cats are worth the money - I hope you get a cat Idaho Spud.

When you get your cat some here and I can help you out with your new pet.

And ... you can always email me if you have a specific concern that you would like help with.

Well, good luck on your new pet!

They have lots of love to give you!
