I love Diabeetus the cat!

Hi, all!

I am the happy slave of 8 cats, although one of them is in kidney failure, and not going to last much longer. :-(

Some of the are pedigreed, because I used to show them, and some are moggies, but all are equally loved. When I get organized, I'll put pictures of them up on my page.

Smiles,

Natalie ._c-

James (regarding your wall post, from early last year):

I choose to spend money on cats because unlike the vast majority of humans, they actually reciprocate by giving me joy and affection.  They don't demand your money, they don't assume they're entitled to it, and they don't cast judgements about how you earned it.  Cats don't use the resources you give them to undermine you, and they don't judge your lifestyle or say you are a sinner who must be punished and destroyed. (I do also give to humanist charities, but you'd potentially claim not enough if I have any left over to spend on my kitties.)

There actually are enough resources in this world to feed all people and all cats.  Cats aren't taking food out of poor villagers mouths, a system that demands monotonically increasing profits at the expense of all other considerations is.  And as Cats are living things, and ones with special bonds with us humans to boot, their well being is a much saner expenditure of financial resources than, say, novelty gifts, cosmetics, fashion, or any one of a number of trend-driven, disposable, status symbol objects.

I support your right to rail against wasting of resources, and the geopolitical consequences of prioritizing foolish expenditures over humanitarian ones.  But there are far, far more egregious wastages and irrelevant outcomes than people spending their money to care for cute, loving companion animals (which, by the way, is also a humanitarian act).

schadenfreude  [shahd-n-froi-duh]

–noun:  satisfaction or pleasure felt at someone else's misfortune.
Origin:  1890–95, German, Schaden  harm + Freude  joy

The cat's revenge would the good kind of schadenfreude!

@Phil My cat has an obsession with our toilet too. Not only does he drink from it(though only when they run out of water), he will sleep on top of it. Sadly this isn't his oddest quality.
