Mississippi Passes Anti-Richard Dawkins Legislation
Bill A.C.A. 5-71-226, otherwise known as the Anti-Youth Subversion Act, passed both houses of the legislature by an overwhelming margin, and signed into law by Governor Haley Barbour.
5-71-226. Anti-Youth Subversion Act.
(a) (1) It is unlawful for any person eighteen years or older to refer to Richard Dawkins, memes, selfish genes, The Greatest Show on Earth, DNA, and any other publication penned by the person in question, as well as books, periodicals, and/or other media that are based in part on Dawkins' work to a minor.
(b) Any adult found guilty of violating this act will be subject to thirty days (30) of incarceration as well as fine not higher than five hundred (500) dollars.

Fortunately, this is an example of Poe's Law -- it's difficult to tell the difference between actual fundamentalist craziness and parodies of it. Follow the link and read the very beginning of the comment thread; the author confirms that it's just a joke.

My goodness you are correct on both counts: it is impossible "to tell the difference between actual fundamentalist craziness and parodies of it!"
Just think about it a minute: virgin birth, dead but resurrected, enters into heaven, 6,000 year old Earth, Earth came into existence in one day, Abraham's, Noah's, Elijah's, Joshua's stories, sun standing still, mass murders condoned in Exodus 32:27; in Deut. 2:15-16 and 34-36 and 3:2, sacrifices of animals, and humans as in the stories of Jeptha's daughter, the seven sons of David, in Leviticus 27:28-29 about sacrifice of humans, lands and beasts.
There are just too many to list here, but my next question is, if god created the universe, then who created god? How is not having an answer for that any more provable than a "big bang"? Theists stand on one side of that debate, atheists on the other. How is one more valid than another?
The stories, when read and thought about are just plain silly, except that they are cruel and self-serving. Murder, slaughter, burn, pillage, plunder, rape, all you want to do and it is OK according to holy scripture.
Excuse me! Don't fill children's minds with the cherry picked portions of the bible and expect me or others to remain silent. Delusions passed from one generation to another are still delusions.
Permalink Reply by Loren Miller on July 25, 2012 at 3:42pm I guess the part of me that has no sense of humor automatically called bullshit before I even considered that this might be POE. I mean, First Amendment, anyone? The FFRF would fall on any such law like a ton of bricks, and public exposure would only make Mississippi's state government look more ridiculous than they already are.
But it's just a joke so ... [shrug]

i've got no problem with everyone saying "merry christmas" on christmas day. however, they've turned it into an entire holiday season where it lasts a month or more. in those situations it should be perfectly acceptable to say "happy holidays" or call it a…

I posted the bulk of this on another thread, but wanted to add some context separately.
I finally confronted my faith and embraced the fact of my atheism late last August, 2012. Days after I revealed my "epiphany" to a few friends who knew me from another message board, my sister died from Lou Gehrig's Disease (which pissed her off because she hated catching a disease from someone she never f---ed).
THAT was my sister, understand? She was a beautiful, life-loving, potty-mouthed…

OK. I am venting. My mother died two weeks ago. She was a “god fearing christian.” Before her death she refused all medical treatment. She wanted to be left alone. She even refused to speak with my brother who is a methodist minister. He is a pip, let me tell you! I suspect she did not believe, but a woman born in her time could not and did not state her actual beliefs. This is the opening salvo to all christians; FUCK YOU! I had so many people come and tell…
