A very eloquent letter by Mr. Kovic. We can only hope that it has some effect.

A Letter from Ron Kovic to Young Veterans and GI's
Sunday, December 12th, 2010
By: Ron Kovic
"Raise Your Voices, Protest, Stop These Wars"

"Those of us lucky enough to have survived combat yearn for life now, for beauty, for all that is decent and good, for in war we saw the worst in the human being. We saw poverty and death, killing and savagery, the darkest sides of the human soul, the most hated parts of our humanity."

OPINIONS on OBAMA

Real Socialist Calls Obama a Capitalist
by Berry Craig posted on Tuesday, 30 November 20102

2008 Socialist presidential hopeful says Obama is a capitalist .
Republicans, especially Tea Party types, still claim President Obama has a "socialist agenda." Democrats keep on denying it. Journalists dutifully report the dissing and the disavowals, claiming that's giving the public both sides of the story. Seldom do scribes ask Real McCoy Socialists like Brian Moore if the President is one of them. Moore says no way. "Obama's actions and policies are capitalist to the core."

Cowards vs. Hypocrites: Why Democratic Politicians Despise the “Professional Left”
by Randy Shaw posted on Friday, 13 August 20102

Obama Press Secretary Robert Gibbs caused the biggest blogosphere firestorm of 2010 by publicly condemning the "professional left" during an August 10 interview. Many observed that while Republican politicians fear their base, Democrats "hate" theirs, a statement certainly borne out both by Gibbs' comments and those previously made by Obama Chief of Staff Rahm Emmanuel. I wrote a January 20, 2010 piece titled Blaming the Left on this dynamic, which gets worse as Obama's list of legislative accomplishments grows along with progressive disenchantment over the lack of transformational change. Republican and Democratic politicians treat their bases differently because the former is accused of lacking political courage while the latter is charged with hypocrisy; progressive criticism is more deeply felt because it challenges politicians' personal identities. ...

Here is a concept for liberal free thinkers.
This is organization is in rural a county in California, USA. I've found that most activists are not divided by God belief. In fact in my experience, the subject almost never comes up. The topic at hand is getting liberals and progressives to vote; electing progressives to office; equal access to universal health care; fair and living wages; equality of justice; economic justice; ending racism, sexism and homophobia; putting a stop to unnecessary US Military intervention, etc. ...

A NEW PROGRESSIVE ALLIANCE

Realizing that our shared commitment to human rights, religious freedom, and peace and social justice, significantly outweighs our differences; we the undersigned, comprised of both secular and religious progressives, declare an alliance between progressive, rational-minded people regardless of one’s spiritual, religious, or secular perspective.

While our beliefs about the existence of God may differ, progressive Americans share a common tradition of humanism dating back to at least the Renaissance. Many spiritual and religious thinkers have significantly contributed to the advancement of doubt, free thinking, and the sciences, laying the ground work for the Enlightenment and modernity. There is no "cultural war" dividing us.
