I am looking for a way to prepare a presentation in the essence of logic and reason for the general public. My impressions are:

1. generally, people are self-confident in their own thinking processes (regardless of irrationality) and therefore have little interest in the "intellectual" pursuit of better reasoning.

2. people generally mistrust those claiming to want to "improve" your thinking as pushing some "culture wars" agenda (liberals, progressives, neo-cons, snake oil charlatans, etc.).

3. a general presentation in logic and reason has no defined benefit or outcome so why would anyone attend except to engage in debate?

Has anyone had success in engaging people in improving their thinking and reasoning skills? Any other suggestions?
