Nice article on women ageing, colours, fashion, sporting grey hair, gender politics, etc. I found the picture of female USA senators (scroll almost all the way down) particularly telling, all aging, not a single one daring to show their grey.

How fashion intersects politics, economics, gender, race, & pop...

I never had anything like worship envy, though I have at times envied believing in afterlife or a big sky daddy. What I envy is the instant and enduring core of community the religious have. People who relocate attach themselves to a church and meet lots of people they sort of have something in common with. I always founder looking for community. Mostly I want friends I can enjoy talking with and doing things with and who won't keep babbling about their imaginary friend. The internet is a huge boon because sites dedicated to a particular interest often have sub groups for reality based people. I made a lot of friends on iVillage (which sucks otherwise) because there were women atheists, not people you meet every day. Same with Ravelry, a knitting/crochet site where I'm meeting people to knit with and generally hang out with.

I simply invented my own voice to talk to. Her name is Polly, and she's a lot of fun. She even has a sense of humor, which most gods lack, and she cares in a detached sort of way. I even wrote a book about her. She's a god that I, as an atheist, wish existed.

Quiet group, 's all. I'm very active in a single group (Origins) simply because I find a lot of intellectual stimulation there - even if my own posts swing way off-topic. (Not all of them do).

As for the voices in my head, I find the the anti-psychotics help; religious people seem to accept these as part of the deal.

Right, I think I'll go lick a toad.

Uh....what happened to the people in this group?  NO posts, but one, from 2011?  I'm NOT getting any younger.....

Hey Hot Mess. Can you expand the discussion forum so that more discussions show at once? Some may not realize that there are more beyond the three showing, or that all will be revealed upon clicking "View All".

40 and proud (to have survived to this age, that is). Turned 40 in December. Best years are ahead ...
