World’s Richest Man Calls For Increasing Retirement Age To 70
Of course the 1% wants everybody else to work till they drop.
Mexican telecom mogul Carlos Slim, who with a fortune of $65 billion is the world’s richest man, believes that struggling countries need to raise their retirement age to 70 in order to help fix their finances...
In fact, while life expectancy has gone up substantially for richer, white men, low-income workers have not seen the same gains. Low-income minority women have actually seen their life expectancy decrease in recent years. As the Center for Economic and Policy Research put it, “there has been a sharp rise in inequality in life expectancy by income over the last three decades that mirrors the growth in inequality in income.”

Permalink Reply by Natalie A Sera on June 14, 2012 at 4:18pm I don't think there should be any retirement age. That's because we are all individuals, and some people are too ill or disabled to work when they are in their 50's and some people are strong and hearty in their 70's. I don't think programs like Social Security should be tied to age, when it is meaningless, nor to income, when those who have earned more over their lifetimes, and therefore had more opportunity to save get more than those who have only been paid enough to cover their heads and put food on the table. If people should be able to live in the style to which they have become accustomed, then let them save the money and pay for it. in addition, there should be no cap on earnings taxed for Social Security, because that means that rich people pay a smaller percentage of their income to SS but take more money out of the system. Yup, bleeding heart liberal, but I don't particularly care to have my taxes go to take care of rich people when I'm the one who's struggling.
