Okay ... so:

• When are the trials scheduled to start?
• How many priests and higher ranking officials have been charged?
• Are civil suits being brought?

• And of significant importance:
• What has the impact been on the catholic community as regards disaffection from the church?

Inquiring minds want to know.

Catholic clergy child sexual abuse? I'm reminded of the Claude Rains character in the movie Casablanca as he "discovers" an illegal casino (and being handed his winnings). "I'm shocked, I tell you. I'm shocked.

I'm not at all shocked about people not going after their hides. Convince a human to repress their most basic biological functions, and you can convince them of anything. Someone that believes the local shaman, priest, rabbi, mullah, imam, minister, etc., can dictate what and when you can and cannot eat (dietary laws); with whom, when, and how you're allowed to have consensual sex; and whom to kill, on command, for expressing thought crimes, will buy anything.

"What do ya' know. Turns out our holy people were raping and torturing children en masse and world wide. Ooopsy daisy! Our bad! Now, let's get back to more important things. Ostracize those horrible gays, and keep those uppity women in their place. "

And the true believers will continue to go to the temple, church, mosque, synagogue, etc., shell out their money, keep their heads bowed, loathe themselves like they're told to, all in fear of losing the one way ticket to eternal happy land.

I am not surprised.

I was sent to catholic schools in the state of New South Wales, Australia.

My Year Nine science teacher was Bob 'Dolly' Dunn was a convicted pedophile and died in prison. My Year Twelve English teacher was Brother Micheal Evans was charged with pedophilia but committed suicide before his trial.

I didn't get tagged.

It is a large scale serious crime, the priests envolved must be brought to justice, they must be punished.
