Girls! Wake up. No one needs to be hit. It just isn't necessary. Girls, do you think a man who hits you cares abut your flourishing? I do! Your birth means you are a whole person, completely and totally human and deserving of certain human rights. Refuse to be hit. If it happens once, it will happen again. So get out. Stay away from controlling men. They are overgrown children who haven't learned how to live like a real man. Desert them. Abandon them. Reject them. You will be happier and healthier if you do. And so will your children.

‘Cash for kids’ judge gets 28 year jail sentence

A former Pennsylvania judge who rendered guilty verdicts in exchange for over $1 million in kickbacks from a for-profit youth rehabilitation center will spend up to 28 years in prison, following his sentencing hearing last Thursday.

Over the weekend, CNN sat down with the mother of one of his victims, a young man who was so distraught by his unjust incarceration that he committed suicide.

Ask The U.S. Ambassador to Support the Human Right to Water

For the first time since the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was adopted 60 years ago, the UN General Assembly is finally poised to recognize the Human Right to Water and Sanitation. Billions of people are suffering because the world is not focused on providing water and sanitation for all. A strong UN General Assembly resolution will signal that water and sanitation is a key priority for the international community.

Can you take action to make sure the U.S. Delegation to the United Nations supports the Human Right to Water?

Petition from EarthRights.org:

A Call for Total, Chevron, and PTTEP to Practice Revenue Transparency in Burma (Myanmar)

On April 27, 2010, a global "Call for Total, Chevron, and PTTEP to Practice Revenue Transparency in Burma (Myanmar)" was issued for the Yadana companies to promote transparency and accountability in the extractive sector in Burma by voluntarily publishing over 18 years of payments to the Burmese military regime. The statement was endorsed by EarthRights International and over 160 non-governmental organizations, labor unions, investment firms, scholars, and policy leaders, including the former Prime Minister of Norway and the former President of Ireland. These prominent groups and individuals are calling on the Yadana companies to assist the people of Burma in holding their government accountable for the revenues that the government receives on their behalf.

PublicIntegrity.org: Exporting an Epidemic

A global network of lobby groups has spent nearly $100 million since the mid-1980s to preserve the market for asbestos, a carcinogen now banned or restricted in 52 countries. Scientists say asbestos may cause up to 10 million deaths by 2030, with a mounting toll in the developing world.
