Hi, guys.

Regarding your interview with Matthew Bowman and his book on Mormon history (Episode 149. April 3, 2012):

Mr. Bowman’s characterization of the Mormon church as backing off from its stance opposing same-sex marriage is either naïve, window dressing, or an outright lie. Here is a description of their organized effort to repeal Maryland’s new marriage law:

Suicide among gay Mormons is at an epidemic level, a sobering statistic that can be traced to the church’s vehement opposition to full acceptance of gay men and lesbians. Their enforcement of restrictive, dehumanizing morals deserves a spotlight, not a whitewash.

While I understand the wish to interview someone like Mr. Bowman to gain some insight into a weird religion, I wished several times you had called, “foul!” on his effrontery in defense of falsehood.

Keith, sorry I haven't responded sooner, but I've been crazy busy (I know, that's my perennial excuse, but it's still true!).

While I sympathize your desire to lay down common-sense ground rules when entering into reasoned debate, I seriously doubt you'll ever get a religious opponent to sit still long enough to listen to the rules, much less agree to them.  Sad but true.  :(
