Christian radio nets

Why do you think a hobby so rooted in technology is such a hot bed for Christianity? You can't look up HF nets without getting 100 or so hits for these people. That, or the hate groups that seem to…Continue

Down here in Costa Rica, we refer to the nightly ranters on 75m. as the "finqueros cerdos" - the "pig farmers."  Most seem to display a level of ignorance suggesting that their only contact with education is a weekly trip down from the hills to town to visit the grocery store. They make me embarrassed to be a gringo ham down here, frankly.

Nice to meet you, James.  Look for me on 17m and 30m PSK if you are ever on that mode.

Yeah, 75 meters is especially rant filled.  Nice to meet you.

Well, I have not set up my station yet since I moved to Nebraska, but I will be soon. And lo! There are in fact freethinkers and atheists in ham radio (you wouldn't guess by listening to HF).

Yeah, sure, I'd like to get my hands on some of that gear.  But mostly, I can't wait for the Rapture, because it means we'll finally be rid of those sactimonious, self-righteous sonsabitches.  Any hell that Jesus has stored up for us in the post-Rapture era can't be any worse than putting up with their endless hypocritical moralizing and control freakery.

And as an added bonus - we get 75 meters back!  With all that new gear to boot!  Sounds like heaven to me!

Dayton Hamvention starts Friday, 20 May and runs through 22 May. Think of all the stuff we can loot up on come Sunday when the raptured have departed. And while I'm at it, what's the grid square of Heaven? Or Hell, for that matter?

I haven't heard anything on that sked either, Huck.  Dunno whazzup with that...

Kevin, I am a big fan of antenna modeling, too.  Been using MultiNEC, which is kinda buggy, but is a modeler's dream - you can set up to three variables and then let it calculate a range of test cases for you.  That is a FABULOUS tool - you can get to an optimum design pretty quickly that way.  Too bad it is not being supported anymore.

Are the crazies still meeting on Friday evenings?  Finally remembered to show up, but no one else did this time. SSB I assume?

10 PM Eastern is a bit late for us old geezers. I'm in bed and cutting Zs by then. Might be more participation at an earlier hour. Or if it were every night. Or preferably both. That would give me a reason to put up a decent antenna for 75. Would certainly be better than listening to reactionary old pig farmers in Texas complaining endlessly about "godless Marxist-fascist queers."

The usual gang of crazies showed up Friday night last, 10 p.m. Eastern. I keep thinking there could be more. 3.675 MHz. Every Friday.

First off, do it. And you should have bought a transceiver kit. No, maybe not. If you're old enough to have a serious range of essential tremor things going on, building a kit -- any kit -- is sure to make any intervention group close up shop.

My wife leaves the house when I build things. Yeah, it's that bad.

Just do the test, get on the air and, since you don't need CW any more, advance through the ranks until you are schooled in all the mysteries. Even if you have to memorize the more commonly posed questions & hope that you make accurate guesses.

That's how I did it.

3s & good health!
