Atheist Alliance International (AAI), the Center for Inquiry (CFI) the International Humanist and Ethical Union (IHEU) are dismayed that the Appeal of Conscience Foundation has decided to award Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono the World Statesmen Award at its 2013 Special Awards Dinner.  Indonesia's record on human rights and religious freedom is very poor and, as President, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono bears a significant degree of responsibility for the situation.  We urge the Appeal of Conscience Foundation to re-consider this decision and alter its processes so that a similar mistake is not made in the future.

AAI, CFI and IHEU have campaigned specifically in the case of Alexander Aan, an Indonesian atheist who was attacked and arrested after posting 'there is no God' on Facebook in 2012, and notes that there are many cases of abuse against religious minorities in Indonesia, as documented by a February 2013 report by Human Rights Watch (Aan's case is mentioned on page 81).  Human Rights Watch described President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono as "inconsistent at best in defending the right to religious freedom".

Hi folks - I too am looking forward to meeting a bunch of neat folks! I truly enjoyed meeting all the people I did at the last conference. Some of the people I met at that conference remain friends to this day. I will have an exhibitor table on behalf of my own Ethical Culture community, the Ethical Culture Society of Silicon Valley. So come on by and say hello, check out what Ethical Culture is and does and enjoy some treats!

Atheist Meetup Groups are another great idea. Just plug in your country and zip code and you'll find groups near you, or a list of people in your area wanting to start a group. I'm a member of a meetup group that meets monthly for dinner at a local pub - it's great!

There are groups here on A|N for most areas of the world. There is one for Florida Atheists. You can also start one just for South Florida or the Keys. Atheists of Florida is an active affiliate of AAI. Finally, meetup.com is always a good place to find and/or organize casual gatherings.

Kevin, your talking like a theist. You are wrong!

Do you confirm that you are a nontheist?

Atheist Nexus is a community for nontheists ONLY! This is NOT a site to convert others or debate the existence of god(s). There are plenty of other sites to do this. Violators will be banned instantly and permanently.

I don't think that it is possible for a human not to believe in anything. You may believe in love, you may believe that there is no god and that human race appeared at the result of explosion. But still everybody has some believes. It makes your personality and makes you different from other people.

Kevin, you need a crash course into reality. The secret is BS. You don't have control in this Matrix!

BTW, Joining this website requires you to be agnostic or atheist. If you are a believer in the secret, you probably do not belong here.

Well, it is interesting to find co-thinkers. I think that the most important thing is not the faith but to be a good, honest person. As for me I believe in "secret". This is a film I found at the torrents files search engine http://www.picktorrent.com . It says that our thoughts create our reality. Well, i believe in it. It is interesting to know, what other members of this group believe in.
