That would be why I prefaced my comment with "maybe I'm just arguing semantics". The word "divinity" just doesn't sit well with me.

Perhaps we should look upon "divinity" in this context as just the standard name of a particular thing that no longer has to be just about studies related to gods. Another example of how words can lose their purely religious connotations might be secular nonprofit organizations that have "mission" statements.

Maybe I'm just arguing semantics, but isn't Humanism in direct conflict with the very idea of "divinity" in its rejection of the supernatural and superstitious? It seems to me that having a Humanism track at Harvard Divinity School would be a paradoxical oxymoron, like someone being a Jewish Nazi (not to invoke Godwin's Law). That is, unless you're suggesting a broader Humanism to go beyond the secular into Religious humanism, such as Christian humanism, Jewish humanism and Buddhist humanism.

Hey everyone. I just finished my thesis defense today at Harvard Divinity School and got an A on my MDiv (Master of Divinity) thesis: "The God That Fails: An Assessment of Theodicies Predicated on the God of Natural Theism." As a result, I am now qualified to graduate as the first Humanist (Atheist) MDiv to graduate from Harvard Divinity School.
