Atheists for Israel and Palestine (AIPs) believe in a two-state solution to resolve the long-standing Israeli-Palestinian conflict. We believe that Israel has the right to exist as a Jewish-majority state, and Palestine as an Arab-majority state.

Purpose

Atheists for Israel and Palestine (AIPs) believe in a two-state solution to resolve the long-standing Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

AIPs believe that Israel has the right to exist as a Jewish-majority state, and we believe that Palestine has the right to exist as an Arab-majority state, but we also believe that minority religious and ethnic groups must be accepted within both states and must have equal rights and opportunities. AIPs oppose all religious and ethnic intolerance on both sides.

Debates about the Israel/Palestine conflict are too often hysterical and disrespectful. Although the strong emotions around this conflict are sometimes understandable, such debates are not conducive to solutions. As AIPs we wish to conduct and encourage respectful and constructive debates between moderate pro-Palestinians and moderate pro-Israelis, and we particularly encourage the involvement of those who support both sides.

AIPs believe that the Israel/Palestine conflict can only be resolved through direct negotiations between Israelis and Palestinians resulting in two states. In the long-term, these two states should be independent from each other but also friendly to each other. If this group can help, even in a marginal way, towards this goal, then it would have served its purpose.

Now it is a religious conflict, Israelis and Arabs really hate each other based on their religious backgrounds, in the beginning it was indeed just a secular idea but with time, religion; as a factor to keep the war going on, kept getting bigger and bigger until now it truly has become as absurd a fight as religion itself...

Any solution should be based on the idea of finding ways for two peoples to live together. Simply saying that one group (whether Israelis or Palestinians) should not be in some bit of land or other only exacerbates the problem by enforcing boundaries rather than opening them.

Israelis have done horrible things to Palestinians but in order for Palestinians to be able to fight back, they need to acquire the apposite mission, freedom and liberty should be at the heart of the Palestinians' struggle, if it had been I think that it would have been much more successful, especially that at some historical point they could have made a difference not just in Palestine but in the world.

Comment by Geraldo Cienmarcos on August 29, 2010 at 9:18am: By settlements, I mean most importantly, the settlements that started right after the end of the 1967 war. The settlement movement also became religio-ideological. But of course the settlements in Israeli "occupied" Palestinian territories started before 1967. If you settle people from another countries, or another Continent on someone else's land and expel them, there is going to be resentment, violence, repression and retaliation. That's been the history all over the world. Native Americans didn't just sit by and allow themselves to be pushed off their native lands either. -- Gary

Thats the fucked up thing about religion, it drives you to be inhumane and makes you think that you are!
