i'll post this to the Videos section as well.
while the video never explicitly states who to vote for, it is certainly implied. this is a Catholic organization (Catholics Called to Witness) which no doubt enjoys tax exempt status and is encouraging an entire voting block to vote for a single party. the party of "values" as the video explains, the party who will give the Church whatever religious liberties they want, the party who is against gay marriage, and the party who is "pro-life". which party is that again?
as the video ominously warns, your vote will be recorded "for eternity". so it is basically suggesting that if you vote Democrat, you will burn in hell. am i reading to much into that? i honestly don't think so.
does anyone know anything about this organization? how are they able to maintain their tax free status (assuming they have one)? here is the link to their website: http://www.cc2w.org/mission/
**update: they are a 501(c)(3) organization, which is indeed tax-exempt. per the IRS, "Section 501(c)(3) organizations are restricted in how much political and legislative (lobbying) activities they may conduct."

i smell revenue! tax em all, i say!
Permalink Reply by Loren Miller on April 25, 2012 at 8:17am ALEC has been showing up in online petitions all over the place, and I've been signing those petitions as fast as they arrive in my inbox. As for the IRS, I hope they tear ALEC a new one!
i don't see how they have a leg to stand on. this seems to be a no-brainer.
my bigger question is what, if anything, can be done about groups like ALEC, Heartland, and Discovery beyond removal of tax exemption? these groups are anti-America, or at least anti-Americans. is it a stretch to render them as "hate groups"?
thanks Melinda.
thanks Sandi.
Permalink Reply by Jessica on April 25, 2012 at 8:45am i agree Jessica, but keep in mind that this petition is not to tax the Catholic Church, but this organization called "Catholics Called to Witness". i'd love to see the church taxed, but baby steps.
although, i agree that those local parishes that violate their exemption with political signs, etc. should also be taxed.
Permalink Reply by Jessica on April 25, 2012 at 6:12pm I saw this video posted on FB by a friend who is also against Amendment 1 in NC. It is a recording of a church sermon in Pleasant Garden,NC at a baptist church. I grew up in this area and watched this church turn from a small denomination church into an evil monstrosity. The money that was spent to transform that baptist church is sickening. My grandmother attended the normal quaint Methodist church across the street. The Pastor at the church tells its 1100 members lies about the amendment. The commercials and groups for the amendment say they are saving NC families where it is the exact opposite. I even saw a commercial for it today show a bible for at least 5 seconds on the screen. I will probably make another discussion about this but I wanted to share this video here since it a church violating the rules (I'm sure there are plenty of these). It makes me feel physically ill while watching it.
I tried to embed the video but I failed so here is the link
