Women will be banned from speaking at an Israeli conference - on gynecology.

The controversial exclusion of women from various settings in Israel because of pressure from ultra-Orthodox Jewish leaders reached a new level this week with a major conference on gynecological advances that is permitting only males to address the audience.

The conference on “Innovations in Gynecology/Obstetrics and Halacha [Jewish law]” is being held by the Puah Institute this Wednesday in Jerusalem. It will include such topics as “ovary implants,” “how to choose a suitable contraceptive pill” and “intimacy during rocket attacks,” in which there are many qualified female professionals, but none will be permitted to speak, at least not from the podium.

I know what you mean. It makes as much sense as having a conference on "Rabbis and Halacha in the 21st Century" and not letting any men speak.

Yeah, religious zealots is just what a volatile region such as Israel needs.

The abuse of women and minorities is only one aspect of the problem, the hate that these people have towards people that do not share their faith is even worse than the hate they feel for those of their own faith that fail to "be in awe of god".

I'm generally not an aggressive guy, but if you spit and yell at an 8 year old I might be motivated to make you eat your beard.

 “intimacy during rocket attacks"  is a topic? Thats probably one of the few times those theocratic misogynists can ever get laid... when everyones thinking they might be dead in the next five minutes. ;)

Maybe if that part of the world wasn't so caught up with the whole oppressive patriarchal religion thing they wouldn't need to have topics like that discussed.

It sounds like the weirdest movie title of all time. Starring Ryan Gosling as Gchglegchm* and Angelina Jolie as veiled women #1, "Intimacy during Rocket Attacks".

Of course then it could be a porn movie title too, but basically anything can be a porn movie title (Titanic, Gone in 60 Seconds, the Ring, Lord of the Rings, Batman (basically a dude in a gimpsuit, after all), Choke and Midnight Meat Train) just to name a few. I suppose it's just my dirty mind doing the talking here.

Its a good thing that we here in the West are helping to protect Israel from Religious extremists. Otherwise, women there would be living under Islamic repression. We can't have that.
