This question was asked before by another member of Atheist Nexus who, unfortunately, left the site about 6 months ago. When he left, his discussions went with him. (I hate that about Ning.) That is too bad, really, because that topic received more responses than any other discussion thread on A|N that I have ever seen -- well over 400, I believe.

Well, I don't plan on leaving A|N anytime soon, so I'm going to ask that question all over again. We've had a lot of new members since the first time, so this will be a good chance for all the new faces, and some of the old, to vent once again about why they are single.

So, why are you single?

I eat fish and I don't have a problem with leather or other animal products as long as I don't have to eat them, and I don't have a problem with hunting and fishing and I wouldn't be grossed out if I hear that someone killed an animal. Does this rule me out in your worldview?
If I were in the UK and a decade or so younger, this socially anxious, sometimes depressed, Atheist with crap memory would absolutely ask you out.

I'm separated from my child's father, but not legally divorced, and not too interested in getting legally divorced. We're all the way separated, but the benefits aspects with insurance, and such, are better just leaving things be, and we have no problem being fair and civil to each other without arbitration. Still, that means I can't join legitimate dating sites, and it might give sensible guys doubts as to whether I'm going to be a source of drama. I'm staying home with my girl and homeschooling, which is great for her, but doesn't leave me much room for private socializing. There is no way I would ever even consider dating a Christian, never have, never will, that narrows the pool. I'm 41, which narrows the pool further, as many people who want to and can form relationships have already done so. I'm a weird combination of nerdy and neolithic, and also of masculine and feminine, and I'm picky. On the plus side I'm open minded, and have a pretty decent ability to make friends and have close and healthy relationships, so I'm hopeful.
. I'm a weird combination of nerdy and neolithic,

*Sigh* If only I could find that in a guy.
Brandon, I could have written this response myself, especially the "Every reason I would come up with, whether it be; too unattractive, too shy, too whatever...I'd see people who were even more unattractive, more shy, more whatever, than I was" bit.
I am single because I have not been able to find a christian who is accepting of my choise to be an Athiest, and well unfortunately I have not been able to find a good Athiest man!!

Its funney, they all start out saying "its ok, i accept", then one day, they start leaving their bible in places they know you will be, or trying to get you to go to church.

My longest relationship was on and off for 5 years...... I really thaught he was the one, but when it came down to it, religion (and other girls) got the best of him.

Sooo..... Single, I am!
That always drives me up a wall when I tell them I won't date them because they are religious and they say "Oh no - it's OK, *I* don't mind!" Well, I do! It seems like so often the unstated assumption is that my silly little ideas are irrelevant any way, they're willing to "help" me out in the thinking department. Or maybe I grew up in the USA and somehow missed ever hearing of Jesus, it's probably a simple oversight on my part. It's ludicrous.

They may as well be saying "I don't mind that you are so much more intelligent and beautiful than I am!" Of course you don't.

Or they try to pretend to be a discriminated against minority: "You would really be so shallow as to reject someone for their beliefs?!?!" Yes, of course I would - racists, homophobes, schizophrenics, sadists, morons, I reject people for all manner of mental disorders. It's only "discrimination" in the public sphere, in my personal life it's called being discriminating, and it's a different thing. Meanwhile the express reason they approached me in the first place is my looks. That's somehow not shallow, and I'm supposed to find it super flattering.

There also seem to be loads of xtians who like to pretend that I really mean all the *other* xtians, not them. They ask things like "Do you mean going to church xtians, or *real* xtians?" Like I'm keeping score there. Lots of the hippy type ones who are just too lazy to go to church still like to congratulate themselves on being the *real* xtians, whatever that means, not noticing they are being just as silly and self-righteous as the blue-hairs they think we both despise, as if my objection to xtianity is that it's not "cool". So Obnoxious. They read the word "gnostic" on the internet and assumed that would mean something to me, and that I'd want to hear their stoned ramblings about that. One even said "Right on, like that song 'Jesus is just alright with me', right?" Goodness no, Jesus is certainly not alright with me.
I give up. I don't give a **** anymore.
Most women in their 20's are immature and most women in their 30's are married.

If a woman likes me, she will have to pursue me. i.e. "The Chase." I am tired of men having to do all of the work. Most women are lazy and expect men to pursue them.
1) I am anti-social and have no friends. Women get creeped out by anti-social guys.

2) I am boring. Women get bored with boring guys.

3) I like computers. Women do not like computers.

4) I am short. Women hate short men.

5) I am a nice guy, employed, and make good money. Women want bad ass, unemployed dead beats who treat them badly.

6) I am an atheist. But I am also pro-capitalism, and a fiscal conservative. I can't win with either nutty Christian neo-cons or godless socialists bent on saving the world from itself.

7) I am not smart enough. But still just smart enough to be considered WEIRD by most. What is a man with a 110 IQ supposed to do?

8) Asperger's.

Another Valentine's Day, another fail. :( I am not meant to breed.
See, there goes someone with all those generalizations again.

1) I am anti social. I have friends but not in the quantity most expect and they're spread out around the country. I would love to find a BF who doesn't try to drag me to every party and bar.

2) I guess that's how you define boring. For instance...

3) With a sidebar career in IT and desire to be a freelance web designer, I had damn well better like computers. About to install Ubuntu Satanic on a friend's laptop just to check it out.

4) I never understood the he-has-to-be-taller-than-me thing. Besides, I'm living in a little 20' RV. Anyone over about 5'10 simply isn't going to fit in my bed or through the door.

5) Umm, soooooo not the case and I think you'll find many an Atheist woman freed of that whole victim-role thing.

6) Ok, we might have some intense discussions during the evening news. I'm not sure I want to see the world save itself from itself, but I do think a capitalist community should take care of its own. Tapayer-funded road repair, police and fire, postal service, library, FDA, FAA and the option of public school for those who can't afford private all benefit the community as a whole. So would the option of affordable public health insurance for those who can't afford private.

7) Not disparage yourself that smart=weird.

8) Me too. Feel free to join the Asperger Atheist group here. Meet fellow weird people (women even!) who find anti-social and computers

I too hate Valentine's day.
