Interesting (and brief) article. Deals with racism and politics. - DG

Who Are You Calling Crazy?

Madness was a recurring theme in American politics last year. I received daily calls, emails, texts, and tweets from folks on the Left declaring "these Republicans are crazy," "the GOP has gone mad," or simply, "this county is nuts." "Wingnuts" became a common way to describe vehement, political opponents on the Right.

Americans have an interesting history of conflating our political disagreements with diagnosis of mental illness. In a terrific new book, psychiatrist and historian Jonathan Metzl tells one of these fascinating stories. Metzl's book, The Protest Psychosis: How Schizophrenia Became a Black Disease is exceptional and unexpected.

Heh! I'm interested in everything!
"I remember when Dahmer was caught and on trial, and everyone called him a monster. And I thought, no way man, he's totally human, and that's what makes him so damn scary."

I don't know to whom you refer.

I formed my opinion largely as the result of a long term interest in the Holocaust. Few of the perpetrators were monsters or clinically insane, but pretty boring personally. With the exception of Goring, the top Nazis were very dull. The term "banality of evil" was coined by Hanhah Arendt in her 1963 book 'Eichmann In Jersusalem'

"Hitler's Willing Executioners: Ordinary Germans And The Holocaust" (Daniel Joseph Goldhagen,Abacus 1996) is also worth a glance.
I don't know to whom you refer.

Jeffrey Dahmer was a gay white man who killed black and Asian men. He dismembered them, ate their body parts, kept their heads in the fridge, their genitals on an alter, and put the rest of them in vats of acid. Pretty gruesome stuff.

Wow.What a strange sounding person.I'd never heard of him. Not unusual I guess.

--I mean, have you ever heard of the Russian serial killer Andrei Chikatilo? He was convicted of killing 52 people( between 1972 and 1990) They shot him.

Yes, Citzen X. Not sure if that was his real nicname, or if it was just what they called the movie made about him. He was pretty damn weird, too.
They worship Palin and those types because of their instability if anything.
I mean Palin is nuts its not political its true.
Also yes having mental illness can make someone less reasonable.
In an insane world, the sane must appear insane Mr. Spock

As atheists - we all pretty much accept that the majority of humans suffer from one form of mass delusion or another - in the form of religious or other type of organized, dogmatic, ideological system that serves as a replacement for freedom of thought, inquiry, discourse, curiosity, discovery, and speech.

Nevertheless, I would suggest that those who have left Plato's cave first have some compassion for those who have not - and also realize the danger that mystification is a many layered onion.
