When did RAPE become acceptable over abortion? When the church said so.....

http://edition.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/americas/03/11/brazil.rape.aborti...

So let me get this straight, it is better to rape a CHILD and impregnate her than it is to abort the result of said rape????  The thinking behind this is so convoluted.... This child was repeatedly raped by a family member for three years and when she became pregnant, the adults did the right thing.  THEN - they were all kicked out of their religion.  Who in their right mind would WANT to belong to that religion?  Where, by the way, were all these caring adults when she was being raped in the first place?  I hope that people will someday realise that the church often speaks out of both sides of their mouth, changing 'rules' when needed, denying facts of life and taking advantage of the poor and the sick.  The children that are being systematically hurt by the church's decisions need a voice to speak for them.

"The children that are being systematically hurt by the church's decisions need a voice to speak for them."

And that voice is quickly becoming the ex-religious, and non-religious.
Funny how the voice of morality is coming from those who claim no moral authority.

The Catholic church is about to find out just how wrong that statement is.
John,

I'm sure this was a mistake, but you've posted this in the Introductions category, which is for new people to Nexus to introduce themselves. I'm going to take the liberty to move this to Ethics and Morals. If this does not seem like an approproate category to you, feel free to move it.
Yeah, sometimes it's easy to miss the drop down selector. No harm done John.

Suggestion : Maybe if the selector was default set to "No Location Selected" and set as a required field it would remind the OP they haven't selected a location for the post and hold till a selection is made, rather than the default being Introductions.

It would save the mods having to repeatedly re-locate posts out of the Introductions section.

Great suggestion, but if it were possible, I think it would have already been made so.
great idea, I never noticed a selection until you pointed it out.
I did not see that I was placing it ANYWHERE in particular, let alone in the wrong spot...... I will try to pick a category next time...
I found the selection drop-down.....oops! Now I know, thanx...
Heh. You're welcome.
The cognitive dissonance involved just makes my brain hurt. The stepfather was not excommunicated, but the doctor and mother were. The girl would have been if she was older than she is.

The church is benevolent when it comes to minors,"

If "benevolence" involves priests sexually molesting children, then yes.
The church did them all a favor by excommunicating them.
You act like rape being unacceptable is a norm. D; You know full well that before women's rights and all that jazz, rape was only a crime if it ruined the goods or contaminated another man's property. >.X So it would not surprise me at all that something as outdated as the Church still subscribes to those beliefs, no matter what country.

We were actually talking in class today about some society where it is considered a norm for the fathers to deflower his daughters. They couldn't remember what culture it was, though. >.X So that could also play a role in this as well, as to why the father was unpunished by the church, but everyone else wasn't.

It's f-ed up, and I'm certain that when she's older and dealing with her trauma, that she'll have to question what type of benevolence the Church subscribes to. Poor girl, though.
When did RAPE become acceptable over abortion?
