Inspired by Roxi Atomic's discussion, "What are your pet peeves?"

I thought this needed a more positive word than "unpeeve".

Watching a particularly colourful sunrise over the mountains.

The first ripe tomato of the season.

Being understood without having to go into a long discussion of personal history, societal issues, world view, etc...

Seeing the first hummingbird of the season.

Meeting someone who it seems like you've known forever.

Intellectual stimulation.

Clever turns of phrase.

Being able to extrapolate.

Purring.

Having a place like Atheist Nexus where I can hobnob with fellow non-theists.

I'd have to say success makes me happy.

Creating a musical composition and not just having people tell me they like it, but finding them with their ipod plugged in and taking a copy to listen to. That always makes me smile.
Often when media companies use your music, it's just filler they're after and often don't spend much time thinking about what they're buying, they're just after a particular mood. ... but when someone hears it and wants it to listen to over and over... or you catch them humming something you wrote, yeah... that makes me incredibly happy.

Also, watching an electronic or robotic design you've been working on finally start up with no noticeable failures... that makes me happy.

Outside of personal success, seeing someone you'd normally assume is a rather angry individual delicately playing with a small kitten, in a happy little world of their own. That brings a smile to my face.

Or seeing someone selflessly stop to help someone else.
Baby animals (not in larvae form).

When people turn out to be non-assholes.

Unexpected compliments.

Good conversation.

When your art goes right.

Shopping ...on a good day.

Chocolate milk in a juice box.

Watching a bad movie with people you love.

Finding people you actually connect with.

Finishing or learning something and feeling more autonomous than ever!

Listening to the best song at the best time.

Changing into pajamas after a long day and there's nothing more to do.

Bryan Kest Power Yoga. ;)
That first really warm, sunny day of spring when you can put away the jeans and sweaters in exchange for a dress and go sit in the sunshine with a good book and some good music all afternoon.

Theists, Cargo Cults, and Logic

So tired of religious apologists asking me to show evidence for the non-existence of their particular god. I've asked them how they would go about showing evidence for the non-existence of the dragon in Carl Sagan's garage or Russell's celestial teapot. They assert that the analogy is false, but don't explain how. They use words like 'logic' or 'inference' as if they were magic charms without fully understanding what these words mean. It's not unlike superstitious primitives from a cargo cult…See More
