What stuff do you believe in even though you dont have evidence and are atheist? I believe in aliens and some sort of afterlife. I also believe theres a 4th density that has different laws of physics. The 4th density im talking about is not about time. I believe theres alot of stuff the universe can do that would seem supernatural. I believe in magic and supernatural like powers that humans arent capable of.

Wow, I couldn't have put it better myself X)
Umm...what he said
I believe I completely agree with this guy.
I have no opinion on Lee Harvey Oswald but I do believe that Christer Pettersson murdered Olof Palme.
After 25 years, I believe that the Palme assassination is still being investigated.
What does "supernatural" mean? If something exists, does it not exist in nature? I believe there's much I don't know, perhaps even much that I can not perceive - however those things, whatever they might be, are by definition "natural". Perhaps we are all a manifestation of super-strings in 11 dimensions and we poor H.Sapiens are unequipped to sense most of those degrees of freedom - but if they exist, they're part of nature and could not Not-Exist. (However, I wouldn't bet on superstrings!).

Aside from such nit-picking, John D has pretty much nailed it (well, maybe not the gov't health care thing).
John D., totally agree with you.  I will add I also believe in my kids, meaning that they are wonderful young people (17 and 19) and they will be a great asset to society throughout their lives.  Did a good job if I do say so myself ;).
well done!
If there was an afterlife I would want an opt out clause.  Some kind of eternal existance?  I can't imagine such a horror.
It wouldn't be so bad if you had eternal life and a TARDIS. You could whiz about the universe exploring seeking  out new life, new civilisations...

AMEN!  I agree with you, the closest thing to supernatural or supersticious that I believe in is the power of the human will and/or love, only because there is (so far as I am aware) no empirical evidence for either.

Also, my wife teaches children with autisim and the claim that it is caused by vaccines is not only most certainly false but offensive.  The reason for this "theory" is that autism is almost undiagnosable until age two or later (immunize by two sound familiar?).

The autism debate is an interesting one. I read a very interesting book about that. The doctor who wrote the book has treated kids with autism for the last 20 years with some success. She covers many aspects - but her main focus is on supporting immune function through probiotics, diet, supplements such as cod liver oil, fish oil and other good oils, but mainly focuses on a really healthful diet with fresh vitamin and mineral rich foods, and cutting out environmental immune factors - allergies etc - she does say that live vaccines may contribute an additional pressure on an already compromised immune function. But the jury is still out in terms of broad studies on these matters. And another important point she makes is that if autism was genetic, why has it experienced such a huge growth now at 1% of kids - these figures couldn't have been missed 50 years ago - the incidence is too great and has grown too much for it to be genetic. This topic is one that mainstream doesn't yet know about - it's still needing to have more research and more findings. It is also the case that autism is a broad spectrum disorder and so can have many contributing factors. This is why her research makes so much sense - that it is based in unusual gut flora and immune function issues.

War on Christmas in May

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/05/21/texas-merry-christmas-bill_n_3312786.html?utm_hp_ref=politics

i've got no problem with everyone saying "merry christmas" on christmas day.  however, they've turned it into an entire holiday season where it lasts a month or more.  in those situations it should be perfectly acceptable to say "happy holidays" or call it a…

My first funeral as an atheist

Posted by Two Cult Survivor on May 21, 2013 at 11:30am 0 Comments

I posted the bulk of this on another thread, but wanted to add some context separately.

I finally confronted my faith and embraced the fact of my atheism late last August, 2012. Days after I revealed my "epiphany" to a few friends who knew me from another message board, my sister died from Lou Gehrig's Disease (which pissed her off because she hated catching a disease from someone she never f---ed).

THAT was my sister, understand? She was a beautiful, life-loving, potty-mouthed…

Death of a family member

Posted by Larry Taylor on May 20, 2013 at 8:15pm 8 Comments

OK. I am venting. My mother died two weeks ago. She was a “god fearing christian.” Before her death she refused all medical treatment. She wanted to be left alone. She even refused to speak with my brother who is a methodist minister. He is a pip, let me tell you! I suspect she did not believe, but a woman born in her time could not and did not state her actual beliefs. This is the opening salvo to all christians; FUCK YOU! I had so many people come and tell…

Unbelievable!!!!!!!!

Posted by Christy Stewart on May 20, 2013 at 2:17pm 6 Comments

This probably should not have shocked me as much as it did (especially since I am in Texas). I actually thought my coworkers were playing a joke on me because they know I am an atheist. Sadly, this was no joke. This actually happened.

I work in a psychiatric hospital. The doctors who admit patients are general MDs. (Psychiatrists see patients after admission) Yesterday evening we received several calls from irate parents. A new doctor who was doing admissions yesterday actually…
