Which is more likely to elicit an irate Muslim response: 1) public cartoons of the Muslim prophet Muhammad, or 2) public proclamations that Muhammad was a bisexual, sometime transvestite and necrophile, who enjoyed sucking on the tongues of children, commanded a woman to "breastfeed" an adult man, and advised believers to drink his urine for salutary health? This item is mandatory reading for all of our chums that fantasise about mythical "moderate" islam and lecture to the rest of us about our intolerance and "islamophobia". The money shot is deeper in the article -
Of course, one need not agree with Life TV's tactics or evangelical mission to appreciate the lesson it imparts: Muslim outrage—as with all human outrage—is predicated on how well it is tolerated. Continuously appeased, it becomes engorged and insistent on more concessions; ignored, it deflates and, ashamed of itself, withers away.
This isn't Faux or some neocon propaganda sheet. It's far too intelligently written to be that. Raymond Ibrahim has an extensive background in mid-east politics and is an Egyptian Copt by birth. Somewhat more entitled to discuss these matters than any of our whitey apologists.
It has been evident from the start that those that have usurped contemporary Humanism have not achieved anything with their policies of accommodationism and mantras on "tolerance". It is now a valid question to ask - how much does this continual appeasement exacerbate the problems we are now dealing with ?

"Drill baby drill? We never really said that."
"I'm so glad the ethics committee found me innocent" (when the first freakin' paragraph says 'guilty').
"I told them thanks but no thanks on that bridge to nowhere" (which she originally enthusiastically supported).
"End of life counseling is like Death Camps!" (The same end of life counseling she enthusiastically supported for the state of Alaska medicaid system).
"I never claimed I was a maverick." (Ok, that one was John McCain. But you see the pattern here)

What's your definition of competence Rusty ? We need to know. These throwaway lines make you look kind of stupid when there's no substance. Is Obama incompetent compared to who exactly ? There's a whole array of rocket scientists over in the USSA right corner. They really do make Obama look bad don't they ? Dubya, Palin, in the way back machine, Quayle.
If only you could run power stations on the right's peabrain rhetoric. Wouldn't that be nice.

Seriously, what evidence of incompetence do you have to back that up? That he didn't fly to the bottom of the gulf and seal that pipe with his heat vision? I don't see any evidence that Obama has f*cked up anything. Vacuous blame game time.

Rusty, I love ya, man, but you really need to pull your head out. George W Bush started an unnecessary war and trashed the Bill of Rights along the way, while continuing to dismantle all the regulatory mechanisms that might have prevented the Great Recession and the Deepwater Horizon blowout. You do remember George, right? Worst president ever? It wasn't that long ago.
And Gold Guy is correct. The only sign of incompetence on Obama's part is that he hasn't completely jettisoned the crew and the policies that got us into the mess we're in. He hasn't closed Guantanamo (hint: Give the base back to Cuba, inmates and all), he still has the free-market fundamentalist nutjobs on staff, he hasn't hammered on re-regulation as hard as he should have. But give him credit for at least aspiring to undo the damage of the Reagan revolution, instead of leaning further into the strike zone.

That image gives me a happy.
I think the BP fuckup on Obama's part is that of the several thousand flaming bags of dog poo left on his doorstep in January '09, he did not have the clairvoyance to choose that one of the few dozen he's had time to deal with: That he did not, on January 21 2009, burst into Congress and say "Dudes! Have you seen this?!? We have been drilling offshore since Reagan but no one on the planet has the technology to clean a spill if one occurs! Quick: We have to put an immediate stop to all offshore drilling!"
I'm sure the Republicans would have gone right along with that plan.
