What are your pet peeves?

For me, one of my biggest pet peeves is how many people can't spell "lose". It's so bad, it's like a typographical error epidemic has been loosed on the world.

Well, I can't say for back home, but when you live abroad and your only hope for comfort food lies in shopping at COSTCO, you suffer through. It works out, though. Usually, there's 3 or 4 of us and we have one person carting, while the other two hunt out what we're looking for and bring back items for the cart. It works out well that way. :D

When people buy a new laptop or tv or something and leave all the shiny colorful stickers on. The ones that are useful in the shop, give u a quick info on what the device does but left after purchase... so cheap!!!
Oh, and the white people thinking that it's not polite to mention someone's race when they describe their looks. Like a woman at my work today: "I'm looking for your colleague, the girl with dark hair". There's few girls at my work who fit that description: a Slovakian, a Spanish, a Japanese, a Bangladeshi and an Angolan. Only one of them is black, and she was the one the woman was looking for! KMT!

One of my favorite dives to get BBQ has a sign on the storefront proclaiming "Fallen off the bone", referencing their ribs no doubt. The man can't spell, but he sure does make good BBQ.

For meat that has 'fallen off the bone', what's so wrong with that?
Advertisements often start with a verb that assumes an unstated preceding phrase...

This may have been mentioned: people who stand too close behind you at the supermarket checkout. Shopping cart in the back of the heel. Or, someone in front of me who forgot something and tries to run and get it.

On theme with my last post in this thread, I also HATE how shallow many of the 'party' crowd tend to be. I am an admitted homebody and geek lately. If you are not the 'party' type, or they decided you are not 'cool', they are disinterested in speaking to you.

And these 'outgoing' types, like college fratboys and airheaded snooty diva bitches are often completely incapable of a semi-serious conversation about anything other than mindless garbage small talk or trivial things. And what's funny is that, even though they are not exactly friggin rocket scientists, they still use their oft ignorant opinions to judge others, when they can't even be bothered to debate their 'opinions'. Like it bores them. I may not be wording this exactly right.....

Look, one thing I learned standing back from 'crowds' and groupthink is that the harder you examine people's beliefs and prejudices, the more you realize that most any 'social group' whether it be race, religion, gender, sexuality, nationality, political orientation, etc etc have many people who are full of crap. I could probably post a book of 'peeves' about all sorts of people, if I wanted to.

Sorry to sound negative....is that a trend with me? lol

Rocket scientists don't bring any more joy to the world than princesses and jockheads...

However, most gregarious party people brings lots of joy to the world. I have long realised that my best friendships are not with physicians and chemists and doctors and CEOs because their view of the world can be so focused as to be limited.

After a cumulative 11 years of college and university (always an A student, but never a member of the geeks, sorry, just the way it is) I still prefer to spend my free time with non scientists, because they are simply more easy going in life. Share a joint, play some stupid games, have FUN. I personally see absolutely no reason to be serious and competitive all your life, life's worth enjoying!

When I live in the USA I party with my Republican friends, discuss politics with my Democrat friends, and science with my scientifically minded friends. We need all types of people :)

Did you ever listen to that TED talk by the lady neurosurgeon who discovered the beauty of enjoying life after a TBI and years of recovery? It took her years and a TBI to find out what most party people have known all along. If you only use one side of your brain you're missing out! Don't forget, a rocket scientist can also be full of crap when it comes to society. Not one of us can lay claim to the 'ultimate truth', it does not exist.

There are so many other ways to enjoy life that don't end up with you moaning in front of a toilet or taking care of the person who does. I have friends who party, and that's fine for them. I see it as loud and annoying. I like to converse, and usually the music is just too loud for that. I'd much rather enjoy a meal before writer's meetup and make a trip up to the lake and enjoy a talk-and-walk.

 

I'll go to the parties I need to, but I tend to help hold up the wall and make sure people don't fall over themselves. I'll be momma when I need to, but I still shouldn't need to.
