Really? Hell?
People still actually believe in that shit?

Here i was thinking that most "normal" Christians had just decided to pick the 'nice' bits out of the Bible and leave the rest floating. I had a christian friend who once told me that they didn't believe in hell. But they just believed 'hell' was staying dead forever and not having the option for eternal life. It was still an absurd idea to me, but it seemed a little better than the traditional fire and brimstone shit.

A friend directed me to this video today. I think i vomitted a little...

I gotta say, the best way to spend your Sunday evening is terrifying a teenage kid into christianity.

Which brand of Christian was she? My former religion did not believe in the immortality of the soul and believed hell to be the grave.
Um, well it was a friend who went to a 7th Day Adventist school

That makes sense. The group I belonged to was an offshoot of the Adventists.

Glad you made it out with your sanity intact.
Yeah, it's a misconception that can be a trap. Just have had too many bad hairy legged earth mother experiences, so I'm a bit pedantic about the term.
And Lilith -

Both are heathen faves.
I understand that the Jews don't actually believe in hell or heaven. The christian hell and heaven seems to be an adaptation of the Greek concept of the afterlife being deep in caverns (reached only via the river Charon). There were beautiful Elysian fields for the righteous and deeper, horrible places for the wicked. And they had their own special god just to rule that place. Sound familiar? The ancient Egyptians had an elaborate, though different version of the same concept. In order to absorb people from various cultures religions like christianity and islam adapted and incorporated new ideas and holidays that are suspiciously nearly identical to the ones from the older religions. People can give up a favorite god easier than they can give up a good holiday party, thus we have christmas, easter and halloween. We got heaven and hell the same way, and they've proven to be extremely useful tools to use to inculcate religious behaviors as well as legal and moral concepts into the rank and file. The carrot and the stick, pure and simple.
Of course, the places where heat, steam, and lava come up from the bowels of the earth were used as absolute proof of hell's existance.
Yes Zach, why didn't you tell Josh about this Jesus person that you had no empirical evidence existed? How rude of you not to tell your friend about your superstitious beliefs and try to convince him that they are true.

I wonder what Josh would say if he sent a letter to a Jewish friend who had tried to convert him.

Somebody should make a parody video where Josh goes to Flying Spaghetti Monster Hell and complains about the stale beer and strippers that have VD. :D
WOW!!! I ROFL'd, didn't know what else to do! lol
