Here's an interesting article from the Chicago Tribune about the "Urban Village Church." It's an initiative of the United Methodist Church to provide a relaxed and socially progressive setting in order to woo back younger worshipers and those who dislike the regimental and authoritative feel of traditional church services. I suppose if we have to be stuck with religion in our society, I'd much rather it be like the Urban Village Church. Of course this still doesn't change the fact that liberal churches like these have to completely eliminate or gloss-over vast portions of the bible which contain damning passages that conflict with their views. I feel a bit sorry for the type of people mentioned in this story. They are obviously looking for meaning and their "place" in life but have had trouble finding that connection without resorting to religion.
