So i got back from the reason rally and decided to start a secular group in my hometown in south georgia. I have about a half dozen people willing to join in less than a week so I'm optimistic so far but I'm still planning to recruit a few more members and start a few discreet community service projects to help repair the image of atheism in this area before I'm met with opposition. I've never done anything like this before and I'm making everything up as i go. can anyone offer me some good advice on how to start, structure and maintain a local atheist group in a rural town populated mostly by conservative rednecks. This is more than coming out this is revealing the magnitude of the secular movement in a town thats probably going to be very fearful and unreceptive, but i feel there are enough local atheists here that it needs to be done.
