This just came onto Facebook:
Yeah that was actually posted about something else previously, and it seems someone has just adapted it for this whole Phil Robertson thing. Still clever though.
That's the "Why Can't I Own A Canadian"? piece that I find so entertaining. It's the thing I emailed my daughter that actually turned her agnostic.
As for Duck Dynasty, I've never seen the show. Never will. I know from various interviews with the bunch that they are college educated men who pretend to be un-educated hicks to line their pockets. It's worked well for them.
It's from an episode of West Wing, probably available on Youtube.
Yes. It's there too. And the man did an awesome job with it.
I one who thinks FAR to much was made of this by A&E.
Seriously, all they had to do was say his offensive remarks did not represent the stations. Sheesh is it that hard?
Sure he's a jerk, but lots of people have wrong opinions. Lots of people have opinions offensive to others (and there are lots of people who find atheism offensive). As far as I've read (mostly CNN) I saw nothing that involved advocating persecution or harassment, just him spouting off his fool mouth about 'immorality'.
Another one for the offense industry gristmill.
If someone were fired for advocating gay rights, would not we be angry about that?
I've never seen Duck Dynasty although I've seen ads for it, which is why I've never bothered to watch it. That being said, it would seem to me that the Right should be thanking AE for pulling the plug on this guy but it's just the opposite. Apparently Phil Robertson is representative of the sort of people the Right sees as its friends and supporters. I'm glad that they're so up front about it.
As for the free speech issue, I don't see where the 1st Amendment guarantees you both a national stage from which to broadcast your views and a fat paycheck for doing so. If I'm wrong on this then I need to know who to contract in order to get my own Constitutionally mandated show on the air and the attendant bucks flowing into my bank account.
Before Christmas I read that Phil was finally going to speak out after a long silence. What silence? He's been speaking out from the beginning of this crap. That's what got it started. Don't be surprised if it's just a big publicity thing and the ratings all go up with the issue settled later.
Why would you watch a TV show about a man that invented a duck call?
Celebrate reasoned thinking; ignore stupid thinking.
What would happen if everyone who dispises that Duck Dude's behavior blocked any positive statement about him or from him? Would that blocking exercise spread quickly through the internet? Would it mushroom? Would it spread like yeast in flour and water?
