I was just reminded of this quote yesterday by Mark Twain:

this idea was the precursor to my Atheism.  the idea of what was around before "me" kept me up at nights when i was in my early teens.

That is an awesome reply to a religious person.  "Do you remember where you were and what you were doing before you were born?" "no." "Well, that's how it'll be when you're dead".

I think Mark Twain's humorous way of putting it is the perfect way to jump to the next phase of gratitude: Enjoy life while you have it.  It is short and precious and we should feel privileged to be here!  Think of the odds against it...as a species, as an individual....we should thank our 'lucky stars' that we get the chance to marvel at the universe and our 'improbability'.  We certainly don't need a supernatural sky papa to worship in the process!  Nature is awe-inspiring enough without adding an extra supernatural layer.
