The "God is" billboard that repaced an atheist one outside the Lincoln Tunnel, had been vandalized

I would have thought a nihilist wouldn't care enough to vandalize anything.

Last December, an American Atheist billboard outside the NY/NJ Lincoln Tunnel made headlines with a message implying that the Christmas story was a myth. When it came down, it was replaced by the Manhattan-based Times Square Church billboard with the theme "God is..." and that was news too. Now there's more news about this billboard and it's not the kind I'm happy to report on.

Sometime over the weekend someone vandalized the church's billboard. The original message was "God is..." in bold letters together with a variety of sentence endings in lighter print such as "good", "alive", "Jesus", etc. But some anonymous vandal has spray-painted on another ending: "dead."

More here.

Vandalism is not a good way to get people to understand your viewpoint.

Appeasement and submission work for me.

It's pretty funny though.

And it's not the worst thing people have done, after all:

"God is dead ... And we have killed him"

Some atheists have seen persecution when atheist billboards were defaced. I just thought come on, it's not the first time a billboard was ever defaced, and it happens to theists lots of times too.

yikes, drunk zombie?

surprised folks don't complain about having to see the same thing they saw sunday glaring at them all the time like all the time all the channels up and down from 375 directv sat... vomit

G'dole billboard real estate broker lamar, what a guy!

snooarrrr

This isn't a very good billboard either. Billboards need to have an effective message that can be read quickly while people drive by. This looks more like it should be a greeting card.
They used word-art for christs sake!
I liked Stephen Colberts joke about the distraction of the opposing bill boards that prompted the port authority to put up its own bill board that said " Jesus Christ! Watch where you're driving!"
If they did everyone not named Jesus Christ would think it was an excuse not to watch where they were driving.

Vandalism is not acceptable.

A pretty substantial percentage of atheist billboards that get put up end up getting vandalized, most likely by fundamentalist Christians who aren't tolerant of other people's beliefs.  We as atheists are supposed to show that not only are we more intelligent then Christians but that we are also morally superior to them and more tolerant of other people's beliefs.  Vandalizing a religious billboard is not the way to do that.

Loosen up. Try not to see it as vandalism, but a street art. Anyway, there's vandalism and then there's vandalism.

It's not like you didn't subsidise that billboard anyway.

looks clever to me. i consider vandalism destruction of personal property. i consider billboards jokes. i see trains as necessity, but i love the beautiful graffiti on them

God is dead. God remains dead. And we have killed him. How shall we comfort ourselves, the murderers of all murderers? What was holiest and mightiest of all that the world has yet owned has bled to death under our knives: who will wipe this blood off us? What water is there for us to clean ourselves? What festivals of atonement , what sacred games shall we have to invent? Is not the greatness of this deed too great for us? Must we ourselves not become gods simply to appear worthy of it?
