I would like to do a piece on my blog, Releasing Religion, regarding mixing God & government.  And I'd like to know what opinions people have here about doing such a thing.  Some points to mention are:

Glenn Beck is well known for arguing that we have misunderstood that founding fathers & their desire to keep church & state separate.  Holding his rally on 8/28, he gathered 150.000 people to hear him talk about bringing out country "back to God".  What do you think it would do to our country to "get back to God"?

The Tea Party has been called racist Chrisotcrats. In their recent convention, most conference sessions began with prayers.  What do you think of the Tea Party?  Do you know very little about them?  Do you know a lot?  Please share your thoughts here.

The piece will be posted on www.releasingreligion.blogspot.com

~as an aside, i've always found truth in humor.. and i've found much more humor in the liberal side of things than in the conservative... which lends itself to the daily show. I know they refuse to taught themselves as news (i don't think they are) and scoff when people say they are, but the humor from the show comes from facts and satire~ if it wasn't true, it really wouldn't be funny

Yeah, I have had some good laughs from that show. I like the Colbert Report too. But I think they lean too much to the left and I love to see them make more fun of the lefties! I would laugh even harder I bet LOL.
Linda, I agree with Park about getting info from a variety of sources. I have completely written off Beck and Limbaugh, however, because those guys are uneducated, uninformed, cruel, pathological liars. I don't understand why anybody pays any attention to them.

And Fox News is no more than free advertising for the Republican/Tea/Libertarian Party (they're all the same party, as far as I can tell). Fox News has even donated a million or two to GOP candidates. Fox News is pure propaganda. CNN is basically just incompetent and frivolous. Any liberal bias on the part of their reporters is more than made up for by the conservative bias of the corporate bosses they work for.

The mainstream media generally is more interested in sensationalism than anything else; that's what gets them the money. When it comes to politics, they have this nonsensical devotion to the appearance of impartiality. What this means in practice is that they stick a microphone in front of a Democrat and in front of a Republican and call it a day, never mind whether either one or both is factually wrong. If the MSM are guilty of anything, it's that they elevate "balance" above an accurate depiction of reality.

I like Jon Stewart as well. But then, he's not hamstrung by being part of a news organization. He can actually say what he really thinks, instead of pretending to be impartial.
thats right, they do have the right to do it~ but the real thing is, that was a political stunt used to divert the masses attention. Liberals are bad for sure; but i'm not afraid of them. they don't have a strong religious undertone to their party, and personally if had to choose, i'd rather be to liberal than too conservative; although I am curious what you are referencing when you say they believe a whole lot of crap. Both parties do, Most americans do. But understand my vitriol is not directed only at them. I view them the same as ANY completely misinformed party. BTW if you google 'Tea party obama kenya' you will get many many pages to articles titled something about sending obama back to kenya. I am in the process of finding the poll that i referenced earlier [i thought it was common knowledge] and I will get back to you if interested
Linda, what's magical about the 10-block radius? Blocks in Manhattan are long and skinny. Do you mean ten blocks the long way or ten blocks the skinny way? I personally think that no houses of worship should be built anywhere, but as long as our Constitution allows any of them, it pretty much has to allow all of them. Anything else is just preferring one kind of crazy over another kind of crazy. What's the point?

As to the Birthers, the polls I've seen suggest that more than a quarter of Teabaggers believe Obama isn't a US citizen, but polling isn't an exact science. And what crap that liberals believe is 1,000 times more outrageous than that? Examples?
It still isn't a Mosque. Plus there is an actual Mosque 7 blocks away.

Does nothing to change my opinion at all. Pages and pages on the internet is far from proving your information to be correct about the over 1/4 stats. I mean sure okay, maybe your info is correct - I'm not all knowing and that's for damn sure. But what's so horrible about believing Obama is a Kenyan? All he has to do is produce a birth certificate and that will shut them up real fast. Why did you even bring that up? It's no big deal to me. Hell, all I have to do is apply for a job at a grocery store and it's like I got a telescope up my asshole. I don't like it but it's just the way the world is getting anymore.

Okay, if you want an example - what about the lady in Michigan who posted a notice on her church bulliten board that she wanted a Christian roommate and someone reported her to the Michigan Department of Civil Rights and she may be fined 100's of dollars and have to attend a fair housing course. What utter crap. This was talked about on the View yesterday or the day before and I heard about it even before that show was aired.

Susan - It does not matter that there is an exisiting Mosque 7 blocks away. That's completely beside the point.
One problem with your suggestion. His birth certificate HAS been produced. All these people just say that it is fake.

Susan - Oh, I did not know that. But why didn't I know that? I try to stay abreast of everything. See? It's just so overwhelming to try to figure out everything that is going on.

Thanks for the clarification.
Linda, assuming the facts in the Michigan case are correct, that would be an unfortunate incident. A person certainly has a right to seek out roommates that meet their religious preferences. Of course, if she did this in a forum that didn't allow it, then that might make a difference, but that's just conjecture on my part.

That doesn't come close to stacking up to the thoroughly debunked, yet widely believed claim that Obama isn't eligible to be President. The xenophobic underpinnings of the claim are fairly noxious, and the fact that it is trumpeted so zealously by certain elements makes it even more so.

As to the suggestion that it's beside the point that there is an existing mosque within walking distance of Ground Zero, how so? Again, the Constitution allows the construction of houses of worship anywhere. Discriminating against one religious brand is simply not permitted.
Correction to my statement earlier. polls say (gop btw)
~ 25% believe he is the ANTICHRIST
~67% believe he is a SOCIALIST
~61% believe he wants to take away americas guns
~57% believe he is a MUSLIM
~55% he has done "many" things that aren't constitutional
~51% believe we wants to turn the country over to a ONE WORLD GOV't
Now, its not all bad, because one in four americans (regarldess of affiliation) believe he is the domestic enemy that the constitution refers to.
~45% of GOP members believe he is not of US Birth (birthers)
~38% believe he is "doing many of the things Hitler did"

If that doesn't give you an idea of what upsets me, i don't think anything can.

Are you seriously shitting me? 25% of tpers think Obama is the Antichirst????

Hmmm, I just don't know if I can swallow that one. He's pretty bad but not that bad lol.

Now the 67% believing he is a socialist. I can easily believe that.

The 67% believing he is Muslim is very disturbing and I have a hard time believing that one too.

I don't see him being like Hitler at all.

Hmmm, I'll have to think about those stats. Would help if I trusted stats in the first place but I don't very much. I'll think about it and I'll do some more research.

Thanks for your time and getting that info.

Jason - Oh for Goodness sake. Ten blocks the long way. I don't know. The point is I don't want that Iman to have his way. I want the last word on the matter since he refuses to publically put down the radical Muslims that killed almost 3000 innocent civilian citizens on 911. That's just the way I want it. It's a little childish I know, but it's something.

Sorry, I got you confused with someone else but I did give an example of the outrageousness of progressive liberals on my other post.
