Just when you thought the Supreme Court could not be more of a joke, they decide that strip search is okay for parking violations or no bell on your bike.

I'm starting to believe the conspiracy theory people.

This court is a travesty.  Citizen's United, Gore v. Bush, etc. Thomas hasn't asked a question or said anything during proceedings in over 5 years and his wife runs the tea party.   How do we get them impeached?

The justices ruled 5-4 that jail officials may strip search all incoming inmates no matter how minor the charges against them. The ruling came in the case of Albert Florence of New Jersey, who was strip-searched twice after being arrested on an out-of-date warrant for an unpaid fine.

That image would be hilarious if it wasn't so true.

Needs more crosses though.

That image is great!

this is outlandish.  saw it on The Daily Show last night and found myself beside myself.  this is a basic human rights issue, and it's hard to believe the the SCOTUS didn't reject this 9-0.  if i ever find myself arrested for some minor issue and get strip searched, i will sue the United States for sanctioning the violation of my Consititutional Rights.  i hope someone else beats me to it.

Good luck on that lawsuit! If the trial and appellate courts follow the law, as set forth by the Supreme Court in the strip search case, they'll rule against you. And, the last court of appeals you get to go to is - guess who? They very ones who just issued this abomination of an opinion.

I can see the need to prevent weapons being smuggled into prisons or holding cells. Since police are responsible for homicides committed in their facilities, they need to be able to prevent gang members, for example, smuggling in weapons by getting picked up for the most minor violations. But, how do you get to be an inmate for "no bell on your bike'? Is there a jurisdiction that incarcerates for that?

I see what you mean Ruth and it is important to make sure nothing dangerous gets in, but this is  draconian.  The bike bell was used as an example during the proceedings. It is in fact mandatory to have a bike bell in New Jersey and possibly elsewhere.  I had not thought of people being purposely arrested, but somehow traffic warrants don't seem like they would be a good way to do that.
