The Young Turks' commentary on Michele Bachmann's comment about God mandating that good Christian women are submissive to their husbands.
I'm wondering what the secular community thinks of these remarks by Michele Bachmann about how women need to be submissive to their husbands, and receive permission from the husband to attend school or pursue their dreams in that fashion. Obviously this woman is anti-feminist and has utterly no chance of winning the candidacy. And if she did, I'd be leaving America before anybody else because it would absolutely seal our cultural doom.
I furthermore want your thoughts of her tripping over herself to reconcile the idea of 'being a submissive woman' with it meaning 'being respectful'. I made a comment on Facebook earlier today that couples should respect each other, and if her definition stands, then her husband must also say he's submissive to his wife. Otherwise she admits he does not respect her.
I consider the 'republican' party to be the exact opposite of what they consider themselves to be- RIGHT.
While the 'democrats' are the vanguard of the status quo and act like a lightning rod grounding all other ideas, especially the good ones.
I'm offended too. I can't remember the quote exactly or who said it but "A woman's place is in the House...of Representatives, and the Senate, and the Oval Office". We just need more women in positions of political leadership. A bigger pool to chose from.
It is in the interest of all American woman to support the candidates that suport PRO-woman issues. The Republicans can try to stick a woman up to the microphone but if she's as culturally divisive and anti-choice as the choices so far-- Palin and Bachmann-- there's no way the American public will accept them. They are both so polarizing.
I supported Hillary Clinton when she was running for president until I heard Barrack Obama speak on the campaign trail...his words inspired me and his vision complemented mine...he still does. I continue to think that his path is better than any of the alternatives of the GOP, THAT'S for sure. I just wish President Obama would show more leadership and speak against the rising tide of cultural conservatives. Democrats like me would really appreciate him standing up more for progressive ideas!
