Smile or Die
I've just read a very interesting book by Barbara Ehrenreich called Smile or Die http://www.guardian.co.uk/books/2010/jan/10/smile-or-die-barbara-eh...
and in it she talks about the megachurches in America with the where the idea is that the customers are sold the idea that god wants you to have good stuff in your life and all you have to do is think positive thoughts and you can demand from god that you get everything you feel that you deserve, and its going against alll the teaching of the tradational church and is more 'christainity lite' with non of the messing about with sin and redemption and all that boring stuff, just give me my gold plated high definition telly now!!! its really interesting stuff I highly recommend it.

Nothing new here really. I think this started with Calvin and was made especially popular by Billy Graham. Sounds like the book is right on target though. Much popular Christianity still focuses on god blessing a person in this life. There is not much of this in the Bible I read!
