Sign the petition by Aug 16: tell Obama to Insist Indonesia to free Alexander Aan for being an atheist

There is a petition out for signatures for the Obama administration to publicly call for Indonesia to respect the basic human right of free expression. The petition must have 25000 signatures before August 16.

Call upon the Indonesian government to respect the freedom and dignity of all its citizens and to free Alexander Aan.
Earlier this year, Indonesian civil servant Alexander Aan posted on Facebook that he doubted the existence of God. He was then attacked and beaten by an angry mob, and arrested for blasphemy.

On June 14, Aan was convicted of “disseminating information aimed at inciting religious hatred or hostility,” sentenced to 30 months in prison, and saddled with a large fine. Now many Indonesians are calling for his death.

By punishing Aan, Indonesia is violating its obligations to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, which guarantees every person the rights to freedom of belief and expression. We petition the Obama administration to call upon the Indonesian government to immediately release Alexander Aan and improve its protections for religious dissidents and nonbelievers.

How uncivilized of those Indonesian muslims. They are still living in the dark ages. I could hardly believed that this is still happening in this 21st century. I trust the authority will put him in prison and release him after 30 months. Sharia law is very strick and cruel.

I wanted to sign the petition but do not have a zip code because i am a Canadian. Is there a way to signup with the Whitehouse in Washington for Canadians? Does any body know? Please help. Thank you.

Well, I'm afraid not, since this is a call for Americans to call our President to do the right thing. But if you know Americans you can influence get them to sign as your proxy. post it on FaceBook, anything. Time is running out!

Wonderful, Nate. Tell your friends and spread the word. If the signature rate increases by geometric progression we'll make the deadline goal of 25000 signatures, but that means you'll have to influence others to sign. This is a fantastic opportunity for supporters of dogmatic freedom to have a voice on the international square.

so I hear in Indonesia does not matter what god as long as you pay one..
and some US general was on CSPAN saying Indonesia was soft compared to Iran etc.. sheesh...
