Recognizing spam.

OK, I don't click on these things because I can't be bothered with looking elsewhere when I'm already on here, but how to the pc non-literate recognize spam on the site?

What you want to watch for are posts that have only a link, Most real members will post a little about the story, then the link.
Oh OK, that should be simple enough, thanks so much!
What does spam do, what are the problems and what are the aims of those spamming. Yes must admit I am trying to feed of the superior knowledge of the site, is that spam?
No, you feeding off of the knowledge is great, the "spam" people are referring to are "ghost accounts" that exist only to post links to articles that get them paid. They don't post a description of the link they are posting and they don't discuss anything else on other posts. the links are not posted for the benefit of the members here or to spark discussion, just to get the guy paid. Effectively it's like when someone sends you an ad to your email that targets one of your interests.
If it contains links and sounds like a (cheesy) advertisement.

I can recognise spam from a mile a way after having been a moderator on so many different sites over the years...
If someone leaves a message on your comment wall and wants you to write them at another email address... someone you've never communicated with before, that's spam. They may leave a link instead.

9. a - e in the Rules & Guidelines also count as spam.
I wouldn't do that, so I guess I'm safe enough there, but since I'm never sure of much, I don't click on anything unless it's something I've been on before I joined here.
There are people here who use a|n purely and simply as a way to steal traffic for their own personal sites, usually with because their own sites rely on visitor clicks as a revenue stream - because a|n has such a high tolerance for this kind of abuse, they make the most of it and use it as a free advertising billboard. They bomb us with short, contentless posts and want you to "read more here". These people are common thieves and should be treated as such. They are a variant on the conventional spammer - conventional spammers are less repugnant.

These people also invariably start squealing about "free speech" should you call them out in it.
